Not every parent looks for the day when their child goes off to school. In fact, some parents are not sending their children to school at all. This is called homeschooling. In the United States, only about 3 percent of children homeschooled.

There are some reasons why some parents choose to homeschool. Some parents do not feel their children are safe in school because of bullying(霸凌). Other parents feel that public schools are not good enough. Homeschooling is also seen as a choice for families that live in rural areas, or families that move often.

Being homeschooled doesn’t mean a student cannot go to college. Most colleges accept homeschooled students. It is important and necessary, however, for students to create a portfolio(作品集) to show what they have learned.

In China, a lot of food is wasted every year and the wasted food is enough to feed(喂饱) 200 million people. The food is wasted in restaurants, at home and in schools, etc. In restaurants or at home, people often order or cook too much food. But they can’t eat it up. When they go out of a restaurant, full and happy, they never look back at the uncertain food on the table again. Should Chinese consumers(消费者) feel sorry for the terrible waste?

Cellphones help us easily find people anywhere at any time. However, using cellphones too often may cause cancer. It’s reported that people who used a cellphone for ten years or more were more likely to get brain cancer.
The suggestions below may help you reduce the risk(风险) of cancer:
When using your cellphone, try to keep it away from your body as much as possible. Don’t put it under your pillow(枕头) or on a bedside table when you sleep.
When you’re on the cellphone, use the speaker. In this way, you have just 1/100th of the contact with radiation you have when you hold it to your ear. An earphone is also a good idea.
Try to keep your conversations short. If you need to talk longer, use an ordinary phone instead.
Change ears when you’re using your cellphone. Before putting it to your ear, wait until the person you are calling picks up the phone.
Your phone gives out radiation when you talk or text, but not when you’re listening or getting messages. Listening more and talking less can lower the risk of cancer.
Do not use your cellphone when the signal is weak or when moving at a high speed, for example in a car or train. At high speeds your phone is trying to pick up signals, and this increases the radiation it gives out.

Are you happy? Perhaps some of you will say “no”. In fact, being a teenager is hard. You may worry about a lot of things in your life.

Do you know what British teenagers worry about most? You can find the answer from the chart below. The research was done by the UK’s Department of Health among more than 100,000 teenagers. Here are the results.

Many Chinese teenagers share similar worries with the British teenagers. A recent research shows that many Chinese teenagers suffer from social life, study and emotional problems.

To solve the problems, some schools came up with the idea of happiness education. For example, Tsinghua University High School tried to meet students’ needs. It built a skating rink and different laboratories to develop their interest.

While schools take action, students themselves can do something, too. The professor Nadia Lovett from Australia believes students’ habits, hobbies and attitude toward life all play a role in their happiness.
