“Make-A-Wish” is one of the world’s most well-known charities(最出名的慈善会). It makes wishes come true for children who have serious illnesses(有病;不舒服). It gives them hope and joy and helps them forget about their health problems and have fun.
It all started in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona. Christopher was a 7-year-old boy who was very sick(生病的;有病的).He always dreamed of becoming a police officer. Tommy Austin and Ron Cox, two police officers, made his wish come true. They gave Christopher a tour (旅行)of the city in a police helicopter(直升飞机) and made a real police uniform for him.
There are four kinds of wishes children usually have:
I wish to go. Children usually want to travel or go to a concert, a game or a park.
I wish to meet. Children sometimes want to meet their favorite actors, singers or players.
I wish to be. Some children wish to become actors, singers or police officers.
I wish to have. They often want to have a computer, a game, a bike or many other things.
Let’s hope more wishes will come true in the future. People who work in the charity always try for the best. Almost 25,000 volunteers help, work or give money. Will you be one of them?

"It encourages teenagers to have a big dream; it tries to find out what is possible; it makes a plan for children to get where they want to go," said Combs, one of the persons who set up the website.
Get a Life suggests teenagers let their hobbies and interests decide what to do in the future. It encourages them to look for activities that help them try to do some jobs and get important knowledge and skills. It also offers information about fast-growing and well-paid jobs, and provides job training for teenagers.
"Middle school is the perfect time for students to find out their interests, to have many different experiences and do something for their future jobs," a middle school teacher said. "Our world will become a better place if we make our horizons wide and try new things. Our students can’t wait until high school or university to begin building their dreams. Right now is the right time to get a life."

As the saying goes, “Helping others is helping ourselves.” Everyone needs help some time in life.
Today our head teacher Ms. Li led us to do some volunteer work in our school. She also led us to the City Park and the Children’s Hospital. It was my first time to be a volunteer. I was shy at first. Little by little, I became excited about helping others. I cleaned the benches and picked up litter in the City Park. At that time, I found people smiling at me. In the Children’s Hospital, I told some stories and jokes which made the children feel happy. At the end of the day, I felt quite tired but happy. If I have a chance to be a volunteer after I graduate from college, I would like to go to the countryside to teach children. I hope that I could do something for them.
Volunteering is a great job. It can not only help others but also bring us happiness and improve ourselves. Although it may be a small thing, it can also make a great difference to the world. So take action and be helpful.
