The sun was shining brightly on the morning of the big day, but the ground was still white with snow and it was very cold.

Outside the gate of Wonka’s chocolate factory, a large number of people watched the five lucky ticket holders going in. It was before ten o’clock. The people were pushing and shouting, and the policemen were trying their best to hold them back from the gate.

Right beside the gate, stood the five famous children, with the grow-ups who came with them. The bony Grandpa Joe could be seen standing quietly among them, and beside him was little Charlie Bucket.

All the children, except Charlie, had both their mothers and fathers with them. It was a good thing that they had, if not, the whole party might have lost control. They couldn’t wait to go in but their parents had to stop them from climbing over the gate. “Be patient!” cried the fathers. “It’s not time yet!”

Behind him, Charlie Bucket could hear the shouts of the people as they pushed and fought to see the famous children. “Which one is Charlie Bucket?” “Charlie Bucket? He must be that little kid who looks like a skeleton (骨架) standing beside the old man. Look! Just there!” Charlie, standing close to the speaker, gave Grandpa Joe’s hand a squeeze (捏) and the old man looked down at Charlie and smiled.

Somewhere in the distance, a church clock began striking ten. Very slowly, the gate of the factory began to open.

I am Turere. I come from Kitengela, a farming community on the edge(边缘) of Nairobi National Park of Kenya(肯尼亚). Since the age of nine. I have helped to look after my family's cows. As a child, in my free time. I enjoyed playing with electronics. I made my own inventions, such as electronic toys from car parts and other things. I also built other electronic devices(仪器) for my neighbors.

At the age of 13, I invented something that changed my life. It also changed the lives of many people in my community. One night, a lion from the park came into my family's farm and killed one of our cows. I was angry. However, killing the lion, I thought, was not the best way to solve the problem. Instead, I decided to invent a solution

The first idea I got was to use fire, because I thought lions were scared of fire. But I came to realize that that didn't really help, because it was even helping the lions to see through the cowshed (牛棚). So I didn't give up. I continued.   

And a second idea I got was to use a scarecrow(稻草人). I was trying to trick the lions into thinking that I was standing near the cowshed. But lions are very clever. They will come the first day and they see the scarecrow, and they go back. But the second day, they'll come and they say,   this thing is not moving here, it is always here! So he jumps in and kills the animals.

So one night, I was walking around the cowshed with a torch(手电筒), and that day the lions didn't come. And I discovered that lions were afraid of a moving light. So I had an idea.

Every boy wants to find treasure. And Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.

“Where can we look for treasure?” asked Huck.

“It’s hidden on island, under dead trees, but mostly under the floors in haunted houses.”

So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened. They entered quietly, and explored downstairs. There were cobwebs everywhere and everything was old and broken. Then they threw their tools in a corner and walked upstairs, but there was nothing there. They were just about to go downstairs and start digging when Tom stopped.

“What is it?” whispered Huck, going white with fright.

“Keep quiet! There’s someone downstairs.”

The boys lay down, looking through the holes in the wooden floor. There were two men downstairs. One was an old Spaniard in a wide sombrero hat and the other was dirty and unpleasant-looking.

Tom and Huck shook with fear when they heard the Spaniard speak because they found it was Indian Joe. He said:

“It’s time for us to move, partner. What will we do with the $650 from the robbery?”

“Let’s keep $30 each and leave the bag here.”

The dirty man went to the fireplace and moved a stone. Then he lifted out a bag full of money and took out some coins. The two boys forgot all their fears when they saw there was real treasure downstairs.

Then Indian Joe started digging a hole with his knife and the knife hit something.

“What is it?” asked the other man.

“It’s box,” said Indian Joe. And he put in his hand and pulled out a handful of gold coins. The other man found the boys’ tools, and they soon pulled out the box.

“There’s thousands of dollars in there,” said Indian Joe.

“The Murrell Gang used this area one summer,” said his partner.

“They must have hidden their money here.”

“What will we do with this, Joe? Will we bury(埋) it again?”

“No, someone might find it,” said Indian Joe. “Let’s bury it in the number two den.”

Tom and Huck got up as soon as the two men left. They decided to watch out for the “man in the sombrero” when he came to down and find out where the number two den was.
