Are you nearsighted(近视)? Do you wear glasses? Many of you may say "yes". In fact, according to a report from the World Health Organization, China has the biggest population of nearsighted young people. More than 70%of middle school students in China are nearsighted.
In August, a plan to solve this problem was introduced. It aims to cut down the rate(率)of nearsightedness for middle school students to less than 60% by 2030. Schools across the country are taking action to meet this goal.
Luoyang Experimental School in Henan started with its desks. It has made desks with a board above the desktop. The board stops students from lowering their heads too close to their desktops. More than 400 students have used them so far. More students will use them soon. Similarly, the High School Affiliated to Remain University Chaoyang Branch School is now providing desks and chairs according to students' heights. Studies have shown that proper desk height can stop nearsightedness.
Spending more time outside can also reduce nearsightedness. Chengdu No. 7 High School makes sure that its students play outside for at least 80 minutes every day. "We have a PE class and a 20-minute break in the morning and afternoon to do exercises.”said Sun Zihan,l4.
Staring(凝视)at screens can also hurt our eyes. Beijing 101 Middle School has a solution to this problem. In its classrooms, there are special boxes for storing students' cell phones. "We have to hand in our cell phones every morning and get them back after school," said Huang Jiameng,15.

Exercise is a must in order to keep healthy. It makes your body stronger, gives you more energy, and even makes you feel happier.
When you exercise, you use your muscles(肌肉). This makes them stronger including muscles deep inside the body, such as your heart. The job of the heart muscle is to send blood(血液) throughout the body. A strong heart gets the job done much easier. It certainly is important to strengthen that muscle.
When you exercise, you feel like you have more energy. Energy is the power to move around. A healthy body does not have to work as hard to move, and it does not get tired as quickly.
Another advantage of exercise is that it makes you feel good. Exercise causes the body to produce a kind of chemical(化学物质) in the brain(大脑) that calms you, and raises your spirits too. This chemical change makes you feel good, just like the good feelings you get from being stronger and having more energy.
Eating right is another way to stay healthy. Breakfast is very important if you make it a healthy one. It gives power to your body and to your brain. It’s easier to choose healthy foods if you know what you need. Children generally need about a cup and a half of fruit and a cup and a half of vegetables every day. You should drink between four and eight glasses of water and juice each day.
The final ingredient(因素) for good health is to get enough rest. Growing children need about nine hours of sleep every night. When the body is asleep, it repairs(修复) itself.

How much do you know about depression? Recently, the Ministry of Education said China would include screening(筛查)for depression in students’ health examination. Students will take tests to see whether they are experiencing depression. This is to improve students’ mental(心理的)health.
It’ s normal for people to feel down or sad sometimes. Most of the time, these bad feelings go after a little while. Depression is not the same. According to the World Health Organization, with depression, people experience bad feelings for most of the day, nearly every day, for at least two weeks. And it might last months or even years. More seriously, people exercising depression may hurt or even kill themselves.
Depression also influences the way people act or how well they do in school or at work. It can affect(影响)their energy, sleep and eating, too. If people are depressed, they find it hard to enjoy things like before. Most of all, it influences what people think about themselves. People going through depression often feel alone. It might seem like no one understands or cares.
But depression is not a person’s fault(过错). It is not a personal failing. It can start small. For teenagers, friends, family and school can have a big influence on their feelings. If they experience such pressure, they can easily feel depressed.
Depression is not the end of life. If you are unhappy for more than two weeks and have some problems of depression, it is time to look for help.
You can talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent or teacher about how you feel. You can also go to see a doctor. Living a healthy life can help you feel better as well. For example, you can try to do exercise, get enough sleep and eat healthy food.
