Disney has made many cartoon movies. The princesses in the movies are often girls' favorite characters. From Snow White to Moana, every princess leaves a deep impression on people. However, have you noticed that Disney princesses are changing?
In the early Disney cartoon movies, princesses like Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora from Sleeping Beauty are usually good-looking and kind-hearted. But they have to depend on others to get out of trouble and find happiness. They end up living happily with their princes.
Now, people still love those princesses, but more and more girls know they have to fight for their own happiness. Disney has noticed the change. So the princesses in its newer movies don't just have good looks.
Merida from Brave is a good example. She was born as a princess and she likes going on adventures. She spends her days practicing archery(射箭术),riding her horse and experiencing the world around her. She loves her family, but she wants to take control of her own life.
Some time ago, Disney even put up their"10 new rules for being a modern princess". The rules include: Care for others; Live healthily; Don't judge(判断)a book by its cover; Be honest; Be a friend you can trust; Believe in yourself; Right wrongs; Try your best; Be loyal(忠诚)and Never give up.

 | YOLO is short for “You only live once”, which is popular among the young in the West. It’s used to express the view that one should make the most of the present moment without worrying about the future. It tells the story of an unemployed (失业的) woman in her thirties who still lives with her parents. After she meets a boxing (拳击) coach, her life is changed. Although the film has caused an online controversy (争议) due to Jia’s weight loss, she once explained that the film was not related to (与……有关) weight loss. It tells how a kind person learns to love herself and achieves her dream. She builds confidence by practising boxing hard and shapes herself better and stronger. |
 | Aside from YOLO, Zhang Yimou’s Article 20 is so far the most anticipated (受期待的) film for the Spring Festival holiday. It focuses on ordinary peoples’ stories. Some of the stories in Article 20 are based upon real-life events. Article 20 comes from Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China (《中华人民共和国刑法》), and it’s explaining an act that a person commits (采取) to stop an Unlawful (非法) infringement (侵害) in order to prevent the interests of the state and the public, or his own or other person’s rights of the person, property (财产) or other rights from being infringed (侵犯) upon by the on-going infringement, thus harming the perpetrator (行凶者), is justifiable (正当的) defence (防卫), and he should not bear (承担) criminal responsibility (刑事责任能力). |

The documentary Born in China was shot in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (青藏高原) and shows animals’ lives during different seasons.
It not only brings to audiences the lives of animals that are rarely seen in the wild giant pandas and Tibetan antelopes (藏羚羊), for example, but also shows traditional Chinese culture. The film mainly focuses on life and love within three animal families—giant pandas, golden monkeys and snow leopards.
A symbol of China, the giant panda is both black and white. Its body is thought to show yin and yang. The panda’s gentle nature (本性) also shows how yin and yang when perfectly balanced, lead to peace and harmony (和谐). This can be seen in the documentary when a giant panda mother guides her baby to gradually look for independence and explore the world.
Monkeys always have strong personalities. The best example might be the Monkey King, a character from the popular novel Journey to the West. On one hand, he stands for impatience. But on the other hand, he shows cleverness and energy. Born in China follows a 2-year-old golden monkey who feels like his life has been changed for the worse by his new baby sister. He quickly joins up with a group of other free-spirited monkeys, but finally returns to his family and understands the meaning of responsibility.
A mother snow leopard faces the challenge of raising her two children in a harsh environment. The leopards, known for their rapid attacks and quick footwork, have inspired a form of pictographic boxing (象形拳) in Shaolin martial arts (武术).
“Born in China is a means to show Chinese traditional culture,” director Lu told the Binhai Times newspaper. “From five-animal exercises to pictographic boxing, Chinese people have learned from wild animals since ancient times.”
