We live in a world full of many different kinds of people. We want to get along well with others. We also want to be liked by others. The following ways will make others like you.

Do This and You’ll Be Welcome Anywhere

Become really interested in other people. A show of interest must be true. It brings good results not only to the person showing the interest, but also to the person receiving the attention. It is a two-way street—both of you get an advantage.

A Simple Way to Make a Good First Impression

Smile as often as possible. Your smile is a sign of kindness. When someone feels stressed from his or her teachers or parents, your smile is like the sun breaking through the clouds, your smile can help him or her realize that all is hopeful—that there is still joy in the world.

If You Don’t Do This, You Are Getting into Trouble

Remember a person’s name. A person’s name is the sweetest and the most important sound in any language. We should realize the magic in a name. The name makes the person different from others; it makes him or her special among all others. If you remember a person’s name, the relationship between both of you will become much closer.

An Easy Way to Become a Good Talker

Be a careful listener first. Ask questions that other persons will like to answer. Encourage them to talk about themselves and their achievements. What you need to do is just to listen, because people are much more interested in themselves.

Saying no can be very difficult. People who are very shy often have little confidence. It is very hard for them to say no.They would feel shy when they say no, but doing things that they don’t want to do will make them unhappy. A simple and direct “No” is the best way. If you want to explain, you can keep it simple. Just say,“No,I have already made plans for this time”or“No,I’m not free at that time.” Other indirect but polite ways of saying no:
*Sorry, I can’t do this right now.
*I’m afraid I can’t, but thank you for asking.
*Please accept(接受)that I cannot come.
*I’d rather not.
To say no you should:
*Start the sentence with the word” No”.
*Shake(摇晃)your head when you say no to make sure others understand. Your voice should be clear and direct.
Sometimes it is difficult to say no. You can try to reply and explain in the following way: “Sorry. I would like to take care of your cat next weekend, but I will be going out. I know it will be hard to find someone to take care of the cat. I will try to help you next time.” Remember that: you have the right to say no!

For most students, the time of exams is very stressful and difficult. Some people find exam time so bad that they become ill, because they are afraid of failing; they are afraid of letting their parents and families down. If exams are really making you ill or worried, don’t hide your feelings. Talk to someone about it. If one person doesn’t help you, ask someone else.
How to get through exams? Here are some top tips by educational psychologists(教育心理学家):
Ask a teacher or tutor about how to revise, and exam skills——how to work when you are in an exam.
Take short rests during your time of work and revision. If your mind is tired, it will not remember well.
Plan your work: revise at times when you know you will work at your best.
Get enough sleep, and eat healthy food.
If you feel ill, talk to someone about your worries. But don’t be too relaxed! Some stress over exams makes you work hard for them.
If it upsets(扰乱) you to talk to your friends about an exam when it is finished, don’t do it! In fact, don’t even think about the exam you have finished. What is done is done. You cannot change what you have written! To this advice, we would add: If you are studying the evening, don’t go straight to bed afterwards. Your mind will still be “going round and round” —— thinking too much. Do something else, maybe walk or get exercise. Choose something that will relax you, and make you think of other things.
Problems Suggestions:
【小题1】____You don’t know how to work for an exam.
【小题2】_____You feel tired.
【小题3】_____Talk to others about your worries moderately.
【小题4】________You can’t sleep well.

Our feelings influence almost every decision we make. Instead of living a boring life, positive (积极的) feelings can help us a lot. The pity is that sometimes we become victims(受害者) of feelings.

In one of my latest books, I compare people’s ability to controls (控制键) on a media player. Just like the controls can help you enjoy wonderful songs, these methods will be choices for you to manage feelings successfully.

1. Pause.

Take time to stop and think before you speak or act. Of course, you may feel sorry if you like doing something without thinking like sending an angry email or posting something bad on social media. If you feel your feelings getting out of control, pause. If possible, go for a short walk. Once you’ve calmed down, decide how you want to move forward.

2. Volume control

Have you ever noticed that when speaking with someone, your style or tone is a mirror (镜子) of the person’s you are speaking to? If you stay calm or quiet, they’ll follow you. Shout or scream, and they’ll do just like you. If a discussion starts to become worse, try to change it by softening your tone or lowering your voice.

3. Record

If you want to learn more about another person’s thoughts, recording, one way of careful listening, may help. You don’t need to reply at once; you’re listening to understand. Through careful listening, you often see things you didn’t see before and can even discover misunderstandings you didn’t know. Don’t judge or offer advice before you know more about others and the topic.
