The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award was what I hoped to get. Yes, MVP-the best. Win this award and everyone regards you as the best player on your team.

Back in Grade 6, soccer became my favorite sport. I wasn’t the best player on the team at the beginning of the year. But after a lot of hard practice, by the end of the year, I felt that I was the MVP.

As the soccer season went on, our team made it to the playoffs (季后赛). We finished second in the city. We were a very good team, and I was a big part of that. Kenny was the captain, but I had the most goals on the team. Kenny would always pass the ball to all his players. At the end of the year, there was a sports dinner at school. People got awards for outstanding performances. Everyone felt that I would get the MVP. When the dinner almost finished, the coach stood up and announced the winners for the awards. “The winner for MVP is...Kenny!” he said.

I didn’t understand why. After the event, the coach came up to me and explained. He said, “You were the best player on the team, but you did not pass the ball. You were out there for yourself and not for the team. You have to realize that soccer is about the team, not about one individual player.” That night, I did receive a trophy (奖杯). It was called the Most Improved Player (MIP). However, I was embarrassed by what the coach said.

Now I’m in Grade 9 and the captain of the soccer team. I feel that I have learned that a team sport is not just “you”. It’s about “us”. I am both a better player and a better captain because of this.

It is Saturday tomorrow, but I am going to school. I am not going for lessons, but to play football. I am in our school team and we are going to play against another school next week. The practice starts at 10 am. We all arrive as early as we can so that we have time to warm up. We are training harder than usual because the other team beat us last year. This year we want to do better.

It is more difficult to practice in winter because the days are short and the weather is cold too. It gets dark earlier, so it is important not to be late for after-school practice.

Our coach is pleased because we are playing better as a team now. Last year we were sometimes careless when we passed the ball and we lost to the other team in the final match. What a pity! This year we are training more carefully. That means we have a better chance of winning.

The fan club has fewer people this year. We hope to play well so that we have more fans to watch the matches. It is good to have our fans around. They cheer us on loudly and we feel more confidentto win the game.

The First Robotics Competition(FRC) was held in Shenzhen.A total of 35 high-school student teams from China, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Poland and other countries joined the two-day contest with their hand-crafted robots.

The FRC is a world-class robotics competition that was first launched in the United States in 1989.It encourages students to improve their hands-on skills and creative capabilities.

There are strict rules.limited resources and an intense six-week time limit before the competition.Teams of students should raise money, design a team brand and improve their teamwork skills, as well as build industrial-size robots to compete .The rules of the game include two groups, and each group has three teams.The group with the highest score wins the game.

The seven teams who won the top prizes in the FRC Shenzhen regional wil1 take part in the First Championship to be held in the United States next month.

Yin Shifei, secretary general, said the competition not only enables students to improve their programming, decision-making and problem-solving skills, but also encourages them to cooperate and share with other people.

According to Yin, a Shenzhen team invited over 40 left-behind children to the city to watch the FRC game because they wanted to make education more equitable .And the left-behind children can get fair education.These children's parents are migrant workers in Shenzhen, but they are left behind in their hometowns.

Shenzhen became the first city to host an FRC regional in Asia last year, and another regional contest will be held in Shanghai this year.
