A good reader is like a driver very much. He must change his reading speed(速度)to fit(适应)what he is reading and what he is reading for, just as a driver does to fit the road situation(状况).A good reader may read at 1,000WPM(每分钟……词)when he looks for something for a report in the library. But once he finds what he needs, he may slow down to 100 WPM. A good reader may read newspapers and story books at 600 WPM. But he may read his science or math books at 150 WPM. Just as a driver has a wide(广泛的)change of driving speed, so a good reader has a wide change of reading speed.

On a sunny spring day, I enjoy looking through books in a bookstore. It’s the perfect place to relax. As I hang out through the hallways, I can feel my blood pressure drops by10 points and that my IQ rises by 10 points.

In recent years, competition between e-books and online booksellers has hotted up. Many people predict bookstores will die. Thankfully, that hasn’t happened. One reason is that bookstores are bigger, brighter and more comfortable. Duoyun Bookstore is an example. It is located on the 52nd floor of the Shanghai Tower. It has comfortable chairs and a cafe. You can relax and look at the city skyline while reading a kung fu novel (小说). You may also meet and make friends with other young readers.

Luckily, science fiction and love stories are all easy to get at your favorite bookstore. The prices are usually reasonable. And, yes, you should buy books. It supports (支持) the bookstore and the writers who have written the books we enjoy.

April 23 is World Reading Day. It’s a day to show our thanks to books and bookstores. The date, April 23, is believed to be the day when William Shakespeare was born and died (April 23, 1564—April 23, 1616). He was a great writer.
