It is fantastic to go to different countries. You can see wonderful places and visit great cities. You can go to museums and markets, and meet people with different ideas and a different language. And, of course, you can eat different food, too.

Sometimes the food in another country is different because it has a different taste-for example, food in India is often very spicy（辛辣的）. But sometimes it is because the food itself is very different. So, what things do people eat in other countries that perhaps you don't eat in yours?

Well, in Mexico, some people really like to eat grasshoppers. Do you think that's strange? Perhaps, but of course the people who eat grasshoppers don't think so, and in fact, grasshoppers are good for you.

If you go to south Africa，you see that some places serve kudu-it's a kind of big antelope（羚羊）. And in some parts of USA, you can eat rattlesnakes-some people say it tastes like chicken, but other people say it`s like fish, A lot of people just say, "it's delicious!"

America/the United States

During the workdays, Americans usually eat a quick lunch like some type of sandwich, soup, or something from the night before. Children often bring packed lunches to school. Adults may leave work to go out for a quick lunch. They may also choose sandwiches or hamburgers, and sometimes salad and soup.

Japan

The Japanese often eat lunch in the form of rice, noodles, seafood and beef in bowls or bento(便当) boxes. School children and adults take their lunch to their working places with bento boxes. A kind of popular lunch soup is Miso soup. People can add what they like in it while cooking.

Thailand

Lunch in Thailand often includes noodles. There are many ways to cook noodles One popular dish is made with thin rice noodles, tofu and prawns. Another favourite way to eat rice noodles is with meat, vegetables and thick gravy(肉汁).

When it comes to Chinese and Western restaurants the differences are big. One difference is in the menus（菜单）.

In Western restaurants, the menus are usually very descriptive. They tell you what is in each dish. They also tell you how those dishes are cooked. For example, the menu might tell you that a burger has cheese and ketchup（番茄酱）. You can also know if a dish is fried or steamed（蒸）.

Chinese menus don’t usually tell you these things. But you can see a lot of pictures in them. Most Western restaurant menus do not have as many pictures as Chinese ones. In some Western restaurants, the menus might not have any pictures at all.

The names of Chinese dishes are usually not very descriptive. Disanxian（地三鲜）is a very nice name. However. it doesn’t tell you anything about this dish. But with a picture, you can tell what is in this dish. This dish has potatoes, green peppers and eggplant.

Having more photos also makes the menus more attractive to people and it can make them feel good about eating in the restaurant.
