You may not think you’ll ever happen to meet a fire, but it’s better to be prepared to avoid fear. To increase your chances to be safe, just follow these tips（提示）.

* ________ Every room in the school has got a fire alarm switch（开关）. Use something hard like a shoe, to break glass and start the fire alarm. Don’t stop to get your course books and notes. Leave your bag in the room.

* ________ Pass through it after making sure the door feels cool. If there is a fire preventing you from getting out of the room, close the door.

* Protect yourself from smoke intake. Get low to the floor and crawl on your hands and knees to avoid the smoke. Cover your nose and mouth if you have to walk by or through a heavily smoke-filled room.

* ________ Just walk quickly to the parking area. Remember to follow the directions on the fire escape map.

* ________ Wait for your teacher to call your name and be sure that you are safe. Then your parents will be informed. Be careful. Don’t go back into the school buildings unless a teacher has told you that it is safe.

We are living in the same world. We like it very much. All of us hope it can be better. Here are some tips for a better world.

Don’t post pictures.

Many parents post pictures of their children on social media. I sometimes think this is a bit embarrassing (尴尬的) or even dangerous. If the wrong people see the information on the pictures, it could cause trouble. Luckily, I’m glad social media wasn’t around when I was young!

Less roadside vendors!

On my way home after school, I often see roadside vendors (路边摊贩) selling food. Many students and adults buy their food because it is cheap and delicious. But I think these vendors and their food do harm to both our environment and health. They leave rubbish everywhere and it is smelly.

No fire, please!

The other day, I saw some students playing with matches (火柴) and making a fire. This is very dangerous! You might think matches are small and can’t cause trouble. But even a little spark (火星) can cause a big fire-burning down buildings and forests. Tragedies (悲剧) like this happen every year. We should use fire carefully and stay away from it when we can.

In our school, students do class chores (值周) from Monday to Friday. We clean the floors and blackboards. So we’re often left with a big bag of rubbish in the hallway. Some people throw it into the rubbish bin. But they sometimes aren’t careful about it and rubbish may be left on the ground. So we should go closer to the rubbish bin to make sure that all the rubbish is thrown away in a correct way. It may seem like a small step, but it’s important.

Do you want to be a volunteer? Maybe you need some ideas. Here is some advice.

Help kids learn and grow. Be a big brother or sister at an after-school care center. You can help little kids to learn or play with them.

Give back during the holidays. Serve dinner for the homeless, volunteer at an old people’s home, or give out toys to kids.

Help at an animal shelter (庇护所). Most shelters depend on (依靠) volunteers to keep the cats and dogs happy and take them to exercise. And when you’re walking dogs, you get some exercise, too.

Protect the environment. Take part in a park clean-up day. Plant a tree. Join a group to work together to protect a river.

Help sick people. Helping others can make you feel good. When you cheer sick people up, you also feel happy. If you have several hobbies, find a way to do them all. For example, if you love kids and are good at painting and dancing, visit a children’s hospital and teach them these interesting things.
