Have you ever heard of the Silk Road? Do you know what an important role it plays in the whole world? Did you visit any famous 【小题1】 along the road? Although it’s called the Silk Road, people bought and sold a lot more than silk. The Silk Road went 【小题2】 Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. It covered almost 6,500 kilometers from Xi’an, China to Rome.

My dad is very 【小题3】 in the Silk Road. He has told me lots of stories and cultures about it in past years. Last summer, my family went to some places on the road for a holiday.

We 【小题4】 at Lanzhou and went on to Wuwei. Wuwei was a very important city on the Silk Road. It connected (连接) three main cities in the area. Although it’s now a modern city, you can get a 【小题5】 of history when you visit it.

The next stop was Jiayuguan. It’s on the edge (边缘) of the desert. In ancient times, it 【小题6】 a busy city with a lot of people coming and going. Even today, it’s a popular place for people around the world 【小题7】. An important part of the Great Wall was also built here.

After that, we went on to Yumenguan. I 【小题8】 found out about Yumenguan in the famous poem written by Wang Zhihuan, Spring wind doesn't blow over the Yumen Pass. It was in the Gobi Desert and was the only connection betwecn Central Asia and China. I wonder 【小题9】 people made it through the hot desert so long ago.

This trip wasn’t just a scenic (观光的) journey. So far, it 【小题10】 me understand the history of the area and see how people from different places influenced (影响) each other in many ways.

In a map of the world you can easily find two big cities, London and New York. London is the oldest city in England. It’s 【小题1】 the biggest city in Europe. New York is as big as London. The streets in London are 【小题2】 and there is one of the world’s 【小题3】 underground railway systems (地铁系统). The streets in New York are just as crowded as in London. And the New York subway 【小题4】 more people each day than the London underground. There are a lot of big 【小题5】 in these two cities. 【小题6】 New York has more supermarkets than London.

In London there are many palaces (宫殿) and churches, 【小题7】, St. Paul’s. New York isn’t as old as London, and it 【小题8】 many old buildings. But skyscrapers (摩天大楼) in New York 【小题9】 much bigger than the buildings in London.

London has 【小题10】 parks than New York. But New York’s Central Park is much bigger than the biggest park in London.

England is part of an island. It is【小题1】for its beautiful green countryside with【小题2】 and lakes in the north. My 【小题3】 is Cambridge, in the east of England. It has many buildings and churches, and Cambridge 【小题4】. It’s 【小题5】 and less busier than London.
