This is a picture. A classroom is in it. It is big and clean. You can see a teacher’s desk, five desks and six chairs. You can see a girl and a boy in it, too.

Three books are on the teacher’s desk. A pencil case is on a desk. Two pens and two rulers are in the pencil case. A schoolbag is behind a chair. A ball is on the floor.

The girl is Lucy. She is eleven. The boy is Mike. He is twelve. They are in Class Two, Grade One. They are good friends. Their teacher is Miss Green. She is not here.

A green classroom used to be a classroom whose walls were green. But today’s green classrooms are “greener” than that! New “green” classrooms help schools save money and provide clean environment where students learn better.

Many classrooms are going green by adding solar panels (太阳能电池板) to their roofs. The solar panels collect energy from the sun and use it to power lights and computers. The panels help create at least as much electricity (电力) as the classrooms use. They can also cut down the cost of energy.

Many new “green” classrooms are built by using recycled things.

Green schools have other new ideas. Some classrooms are painted with special paint that helps improve indoor air quality (质量). Some use windows that keep classrooms warm in cold weather and let in lots of natural daylight. Others no longer use glue that adds chemical (化学的) smells to the air.

Experts (专家) say that green classrooms are good for education. Studies show that the environment with good air can cut colds and flu by more than 50 percent. That means fewer sick days for students and teachers. Studies have also shown that natural light and other green features (特点) improve students’ learning and marks in tests, too.

On a small farm in Mexico (墨西哥), there are no schools. A bus is the school. The driver of the bus is the teacher.

It’s a school bus, but it doesn’t take the children to school. It just goes round from place to place, and sometimes it comes to this farm. The bus will stay (停留) here for three weeks. The farmers call it a school on wheels (车轮). Every time when the bus comes, the farmers will come, running to it, they are all happy and warmly (热烈地) welcome the school bus.

When the bus is on the farm, in the morning, the teacher teaches the small children. In the afternoon, the bigger children come to have their lessons because they must work in the morning. At night, the fathers and mothers come to school. They want to learn, too. How the farmers hope that some day they can have a real school on their farm!
