One morning,Emma discovered that her classroom had changed. She found that the desks were no longer in rows, but pushed together to make eight bigger desks. She was so excited about it for the first two days that she couldn't listen to the teachers carefully. But soon she and her classmates got used to this new classroom arrangement(安排). “Now our class is quieter,” said Emma. “What's more,we can come up with our own ideas and learn more through discussion. It's a better way to study.”

David liked it,too. "Group members first discuss," he said,"and then show to the whole class. It encourages us greatly. "This was part of a reform(改革)at David's school. The school made this reform because they wanted to offer students easier ways to study and more chances to discuss. “Our school hopes to improve students' abilities to study by themselves and work in groups.” said Linda,an English teacher.

However, the reform has demanded(要求)more from teachers. Now they have only 15minutes to give a lesson that would have been taught in 40 minutes before. It is difficult to teach in such a short time. The teachers have to find better ways to teach more effectively(有效地). “The reform demands more, but I'm sure it is helpful.” added Linda.

In your school, are you allowed to choose the subjects you want to learn?Of course, the answer is “No” here in China.
In America there is a school trying something new.At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are better at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, while others will not.At this school students are able to find subjects they are interested in,and possibly even find the field(领域) they would like to go into after school. They are allowed to choose a subject like biology, math,a foreign language,or study skills like computer or car repair(修理).
Some people think this is a good idea, because it helps students think about what they want to do in the future, and the school helps to give them the knowledge and skills needed to get there. They say that giving the students the chance to choose their own classes makes high school more interesting.Others disagree. They think that fourteenyearold teenagers are too young to know what they will want to do in the future.

Hip hop or rap music started on the street and in the clubs of the New York City in the1970s. People rap to express how they feel about their lives and problems.

Nowadays, hip pop music is played in more than 10,000 schools in the USA .Why? There is a new school program called “Flocabulary”, in which teachers use texts and hip hop CDs to help teach different school subjects, such as physics, math and so on. The words of the songs are just what students are studying. This makes learning easy and fun. Students and teachers are excited about the positive results it has had on exam marks. One teacher said, “I’ve used hip hop songs in class and I have never seen my students so crazy about my lesson! You can’t imagine how well they remember what I teach! We even try to write our own songs.”

Blake Harrison, a high school student, was the first person to come up with the idea of Flocabulary. The word “Flocabulary” comes from the word “flow” and “vocabulary”. “Flow” is a rap word for “ style”, or the way a rapper says the words of a song. “Vocabulary" means the words you have to learn in a language.

How did he get the idea? Well, as he listened to hip hop song first time, he sensed a strong joy. And he could remember the words of a hip hop song very easily. “So, why not make lessons into songs?” he thought. Today, together with Alex Rappaport, a song writer, Blake produces hip hop songs for maths, science and English. They are now used in schools with great success.
