Long ago, an old man lived in an old house with his dog. One day, he saved a snake. The snake gave him a gem（宝石）. “When you want something, speak to the gem,” said the snake.

The old man took the gem and said, “If only I had a new house...” Then a big new house showed up in front of him. The old man moved there with his dog happily.

Soon, a man came and wanted something to eat. The old man asked the gem for a good dinner. At dinner, the man knew about the gem. A bad thought came to him. That night, he stole（偷）the gem.

The old man’s dog saw it and followed the man. That night when the man was sleeping with the gem in his mouth, the dog moved its tail（尾巴）around the man’s nose. “Achoo!” The gem came out.

Back in the house, the old man was crying. He thought be lost not only the gem but also his dog. When his dog returned with the gem, the old man was excited! “There’s nothing more I want now.” he said.

George is an old man. He has much money but he always wants more. One day, George walks in a park and sees a black and white dog. It looks cool. George thinks he can sell it to make some money. He walks quickly to the dog and gets it.

“Why do you want me?” the dog asks.

“Because I want to make money,   says George.

“But you have lots of money. And you don’t have to sell me. If you let me go, I can’t teach you three easy rules.”

“What can I do with the rules? I only want money,” says George.

“These rules are very important and useful.” says the dog.

“Really? Then I can let you go. Now teach me the rules.”

“OK,” says the dog. “The first rule is: Never believe what others say. The second rule is: Never be unhappy about the things you don't have. The third rule is: Never let go what you have.”

After saying these, the dog runs away quickly.
