It's aproblem that every year thousands of people get hurt or die when they are crossing the road. Most of these people are old people and children. Old people often get hurt or die because they can't see or hear well.

Children often get hurt or die because they are not careful. They forget to look and listen before they cross the road. How can we reduce(减少)traffic accidents?First, all of us must obey(遵守)the traffic rules. For the drivers, they shouldn't drive too fast. If they drive too fast,it will be very difficult to stop the cars in a very short time. The drivers mustn't drink wine(酒)before they drive out. For the walkers, first, they must be careful when they are walking on the road. When they walk across the road, they must try to walk underpases(地下通道)or footbridge(人行桥). If there are no underpasses or footbridge,we must walk the crosswalk(人行道). We must stop and, look both ways before crossing the road. Look left first, next look right, then look left again. Only when we are sure that the road is clear,we can cross it. The right way to cross the road is to walk quickly. It's not safe to run. If people run across the road, they may fall down. Second, try to help children, old people or blind people to cross the road. Third, never play in the street.

Answer the questions:

Each year several thousand people are killed on the road in Great Britain. Every year between one and two hundred thousand people are injured, or killed in road accidents.

If you are in England and if you listen to the eight o’clock news from BBC, you will often hear news of road accidents. You may hear something like this: “On last Monday evening, at about twenty minutes to ten, a cyclist was knocked down by a truck at crossing of Oak Road and High Street in Croydon. The cyclist had died from his injuries. Anyone who saw the accident please communicate with New Scotland Yard, telephone number Whitehall one, two, one, two.”

Accidents are often caused by carelessness. If everybody obeys the rules, the roads will be much safer. How can we make the road safer?

In Great Britain traffic keeps on to the left. Motor-cars, trucks, buses and cyclists must all keep to the left side of the road. In most other countries traffic keeps to the right.

Before crossing the road, stop and look both ways. Look right, look left, look right again. Then, if you are sure that the road is clear, and there is nothing coming, it is safe to cross the road. If you see small children, or very old people, or blind people waiting to cross the road, it is kind to help them to cross the road in safety.

We must teach young children to cross the road safely and set them a good example so that there will be fewer and fewer accidents and our life will be safer.

After drinking, a driver can’t control himself or his car. In some cases (案例) , some drivers even drove into rivers or houses after they drank.

As it is so dangerous, there is no excuse for drunken driving. Remember the following three rules when driving.

Cars have become more and more important now. We are happy that they have greatly improved (提高) our life. But unluckily, cars have also brought many problems, such as traffic accidents.

Traffic safety is everybody’s business, so we need to follow the rules. For example, we must walk on the sidewalk. When we cross the road, stop and look right and left, then go across fast. Don’t play football on the road. And we can tell our parents not to drink before they drive, not to run through red lights, and not to talk and laugh while driving.

On one hand, when pedestrians (行人) want to be on time, they often fail to look at the cars crossing on the road. This will easily bring traffic accidents. On the other hand, the drivers also want to be on time and then ignore (忽视) the traffic rules, which is also easy to have traffic accidents. This example shows that the traffic accidents often happen because of carelessness.

Whether we are driving a car or walking on the road, we should be careful. Life is more important than Mount Tai. We know cars are important in our life, but when everybody is careful on the road, we will be really safe.
