Dreams are powerful. They can drive you to work harder and become better. It’s important for a country to have a dream and work for a better future as well.

President Xi Jinping said that realizing the great rejuvenation (复兴) of the Chinese nation by building a rich and successful country is China’s greatest dream in modern history, according to Xinhua News Agency. That dream is known as the “Chinese Dream”.

Many people have already contributed to (对……做贡献) the Chinese Dream while realizing their own dreams.

Here are some of their stories.

Sun Yang, a swimmer, has won 12 gold medals in world-class competitions, including three Olympic ones. He is also the only man to have won gold in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle at the world championships.

▲ He took part in student swimming competitions. For many younger swimmers, competing with Sun can be a big inspiration. He also went to Jilin and Jiangxi to give swimming lessons to primary school students. “I’m willing to see more and more young people to join us to swim and build a strong body.” Sun told CCTV.

Hu Weiwei set up the company Mobike, China’s first smart bike-sharing company. Hu has always loved riding bicycles. In 2014, she pointed out that she could connect mobile phone technology with bike-sharing to create a new trend (潮流). “If I have a dream, it’s like a seed planted in my heart. And it grows,” Hu said.

Her dream was to create a great company that could “change people’s lifestyles and shape the future of cities.” And that is what Mobike is doing. Hu achieved personal success while helping society at the same time. In 2017, She was named as a good example for China’s young people.

The Chinese Dream is not only for the government. It’s shared by all Chinese people as well. By calling for a common dream, Xi is asking everyone to link their success with the future of the country.

In 2012, Fang Yue was a college student majoring in (主修) violin. She thought she would become a professor (教授). She would be married and have two kids. 【小题4】 Now, she’s in the music business, and she loves her job. She hopes to go somewhere soon and see more of the world. Wang Shi was a teenager ten years ago, young and naïve (幼稚的). 【小题5】 He is mature (成熟的) now. He knows what it is like to be responsible, and he always thinks before saying or doing something. He wants to achieve something, something big.
