One of the most well-known directors（导演）of our time is Stephen Spielberg. He was born in Cincinnati on 18 December, 1946. His father was an electric engineer and his mother was a performing pianist. His sister, Anne Spielberg, became a screen writer who wrote the stories for many famous films. Stephen had always wanted to be a director ever since he was a young boy. When he was just 13 years old, he made a 40-minute film. It won a local competition. Three years later, he made a film called Firelight, which made one hundred dollars’ profit（收益）at the cinema in his hometown. Many of the ideas from this film were later used for one of his most famous films called Close Encounters of the Third Kind. When he was 18 years old, he wanted to go to a film school so that he could improve his skills and become an even better director. But he was unsuccessful in getting a place at this school, so he went to a university in California to study English. Even though he had failed to（没有）get into the school he wanted to go to, he didn’t let this stop him following his dream of becoming a great director. Stephen Spielberg has directed many films since his first major film in 1976. He now owns many different businesses, most of which are involved in the film industry.

These days, the word “taikonaut” is hot in the world. It is a special name for Chinese astronauts. Today, let’s meet one of them—Deng Qingming.

In1998, Deng Qingming became a member of the first group of Chinese astronauts. For the next 25 years, he was always ready to fly. He waited and waited. At the age of 56, Deng’s dream finally came true. Not long ago, he joined Shenzhou-15’s team and went into space.

Shenzhou-15’s team spent six months in space. After they met with Shenzhon-14’s team, they took over their job. They helped complete the Tiangong Space Station, do some science experiments and go on spacewalks.

The journey to his dream took a very long time. Deng once felt sad and hurt, but he never gave up. He worked hard all the time and finally his dream came true. The trip to space was not only exciting for Deng, but also for his family and friends. His daughter, who also works for China’s Space Program, said with pride, “My father is a hero!”

Created by Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel in 1895, the prize recognizes achievements in science and the people behind them. Every year in October, the winners catch the world’s attention. But what is the meaning behind this award? According to the founder Nobel himself, the prize is for those people who have provided “the greatest benefit（福祉）to humankind”.

The first Nobel Prize was given on December 10, 1901, five years after Nobel’s death. Since then many famous people from all over the world have been given Nobel Prizes for their achievements.

Each prize has three parts. The first part is a gold medal. Second, a winner of a Nobel Prize is given a certificate（证书）. The third part is a large amount of money. Often a prize is given to just one person, but not always. Sometimes a prize is shared. It may be given to two or more people who have worked together. It is also sometimes true that a prize is not given at all if there is no great achievement. In 1972, for example, no Nobel Peace Prize was given.

In the book The World Made by Nobel Prize, the writer Lee Jong-ho says that “many everyday things would be impossible without the work of the winners of the Nobel Prizes”.

In recent years, Chinese people have paid more attention to the results of the Nobel Prize, after many prizes were given to Chinese scientists and writers, such as 2012 Nobel literature prize winner Mo Yan, and Tu Youyou, China’s first Nobel Prize winner in physiology or medicine in 2015.
