A man came home from work late, tired and unhappy. He found his 5-year-old son waiting for him at the door.

The boy asked, "Daddy, how much do you make every hour" The father was angry at his son’s question. When he said $20 an hour, the little boy asked him for $10. The father was even angrier because he thought the boy just wanted some money to buy a toy. So he didn’t answer his son.

The little boy quietly went to his room. After about an hour, the man calmed himself down(使……平静)and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $10.

"Maybe I was too hard on you just now," the man went into his son’s room and said.

"Here’s the $10 you asked for."

"Oh, thank you, Daddy!" The little boy said. Then he reached under his pillow(枕头),pulled out some crumpled(压皱的) money and said, "Daddy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow, 75. 我很想和你共进晚餐。"

Two friends, Jim and Stew, joined a big sales company (公司) together. Both of them worked really hard. Three years passed and the company’s director promoted (提拔) Stew to sales executive (销售主管) . Jim did not get any promotion (提拔) .

Jim thought it was unfair, so he asked his boss why he didn’t show thanks to the hard-working people like him in the company. The boss knew that Jim worked hard, and in order to show the difference between him and Stew, he said, “Go and find anyone selling apples in the market (市场).

When Jim returned, the boss asked, “How much per kilogram?” So Jim went back to the market and then returned to say the price—$12 per kg.

Then the boss asked Stew the same thing. Stew went to the market, and when he returned he said, “At the moment there is one person selling apples, $12 per kg, $100 for 10kg. Now he has 340 apples in stock (有存货) . On the table there are 48 apples, and each of them weighs about 0.2kg. Apples were bought from the south two days ago, so they are fresh. “
