A successful man was driving his new car down a street. He saw a kid was throwing stones at the cars, and then he slowed down. But as his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a stone hit the car’s side door! He drove his car back to the place where the stone had been thrown. The angry man jumped out of his car, caught the kid and shouted, “What was that all about? That’s a new car and that stone you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?”

The young boy was apologetic. “Please sir... please, I’m sorry... I didn’t know what else I could do. I threw the stone because no one stopped...” With tears in his eyes, the boy pointed to another boy. “It’s my brother,” he said. “He fell out of his wheelchair (轮椅) and I can’t lift him up.”

The man lifted the boy back into the wheelchair in a hurry. Luckily, the boy wasn’t hurt.

“Thank you very much,” the child said to the stranger.

The little boy pushed the wheelchair toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the car. The damage was very noticeable (明显的), but the man never repaired the side door. He kept the dent (凹痕) there to remind him of this message: Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a stone at you to get your attention!

“Next week is Math Week. I would like each one of you to do a project. It will be shown at the Math Week exhibition. You could do it on your own or in a group, ” Mrs. Lee, the math teacher said.

After school, Manu sat in the classroom along with Kevin who was not as good as Manu at math.

Kevin said, “Manu, shall we work on the math project together?”

Manu said, “Sorry, but I prefer to do it on my own.”

The next day, all the students submitted (提交) their topics for the math exhibition. Almost all of them worked in a group except Manu. Kevin’s team decided to do Snakes and Ladders, Junaid’s team decided to do a crossword puzzle, and Manu decided to do a magic game, and of course, he did it all alone.

Manu completed the project and was happy with the result. The night before the exhibition, he again checked the project to see if it was working fine. Alas! All the lights that were supposed to shine did not seem to light up at all. Manu was worried and even cried out because he didn’t know how to fix it. In the end, he had no choice but to take it to school.

At the same time, Kevin’s team were working on their project at Kevin’s house. If one member got stuck somewhere, the others helped out. It was a sight of real team work.

Finally, it was time for the Math Week exhibition. All the teams placed their projects on the table with pride except Manu. Students enjoyed Snakes and Ladders. Manu was embarrassed to present his non-working magic game. Mrs. Lee looked at him and said, “There’s still time. Maybe you can get someone to help you with it. ”

Kevin offered to help. Luckily, he fixed it just in time for the show.

Manu’s eyes were shining with excitement and he said to himself “It’s certainly great to have a teammate.”

When Xiong Chuanfa, 34, blows a lifelike tiger out of sugar in just minutes, kids look at him in surprise thinking he is a magician.

Xiong has been blowing sugar figurines(吹糖人) for over twenty years. Blowing sugar figurines is a Chinese traditional folk(民间) art with a history of over 600 years and has been listed as a state-level intangible cultural heritage(文化遗产).

Every morning, Xiong prepares the sugar and drives to different markets in Nanchang to start his magic show.

He heats the sugar, pulls off a little to make a ball and blows it into different shapes—a rabbit, a monkey, and even Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

People, especially little kids, are interested in his skills. However, ________, he also stops by colleges. Many college students have been drawn(吸引) to the art, waiting in line for hands-on experience. Among them, Simon, a foreign student, couldn’t help having a try. Though it looked easy, he found it hard to make it. Thanks to Xiong’s help, Simon finally saw a horse slowly taking shape.

Simon was deeply moved after learning about the art. “I just can’t believe the traditional folk art can be kept so well here. I love it. Chinese culture should be spread around the world,” he said.

This art has been passed down for four generations(代) in Xiong’s family. His 6-year-old son often blows sugar balloons, just like what he used to do as a child.

“We will pass on the intangible heritage,” said Xiong.
