Here are some English learning tips to help you improve your English.
Ask yourself weekly:What do I want to learn this week?
Asking yourself this question every week will help you think about what is most important to you.If you make a plan for each week, you will be surprised to notice how much you have improved your English by the end of the week! This feeling of success will encourage you to learn even more English.
Quickly review before going to bed.
Research has shown that our brains process information that is fresh in our brains while we sleep.By going over important knowledge before you go to sleep, your brain will work on this information while you sleep!
Speak English aloud.
Understanding grammar rules does not mean you can speak English well. You need to practice speaking aloud.Speaking by yourself at home and reading the exercises that you are doing will help connect the muscles of your face to the information in your head and improve your pronunciation.
Do five to ten minutes of listening at least four times a week.
If you decide that you are going to work hard and listen for two hours, maybe you will not do extra listening exercises soon. But if you listen five to ten minutes at least four times a week, you will find it's easy to develop the habit of listening to English.
Look for situations to practice your English.
Learning English in a classroom is important, but using English in real situations will improve your English skills greatly. You can create new situations by using the Internet to listen to news, exchange emails in English with email friends, etc.

Ma Ruining has been studying English for a long time, but her teachers are not in the classroom—they’re in the palm(手掌)of her hands. Ma has several English learning apps(应用程序). They are often for users who want to improve their English, from listening to speaking.

Although she’s tired from eight hours’ office work, she does not spend her free time just relaxing by watching TV drams like before.

She takes out her mobile phone and begins to practice her spoken English with an app called Liulishuo (“speaking fluently” in English). The app offers ways to people wanting to improve their spoken English.

A 10-second audio clip(音频片段)by native speakers is then played on the app as Ma starts her lesson. After that, the app asks her to imitate(模仿)the piece. The app then scores(打分)her performance on a scale(等级)from 1 to 100 and gives advice on how to make improvements.

“If you score more than 90, it means your pronunciation is good,” says Ma. She has been practicing English every day on the phone for the past six months.

“At first, I usually only got a score of 70 as I often mispronounced.” adds Ma, 26. “I graduated(毕业)two years ago, but I want to improve my spoken English to study or travel abroad some day in the future.”

English learning apps make it convenient for people to study English. So what English learning apps are you using now?

Although most of us have been learning English for more than three years or even more, we can't still make sure everyone of us has already known how to learn English well.
Some students still think that learning English is just to remember new words, phrases, grammar rules and some sentence structures. It seems if we do so, we can have a good knowledge of English. We must make sure that things are not always what they seem to be.
Now imagine how we learn our mother tongue well. We learn it well by communicating with the people around us all day long. So we think it’s not difficult for us to learn our mother tongue.
Why do we think it is hard to learn English well? We all know that learning English usually takes place in schools and there are few opportunities to communicate with other speakers of the language. As a result, some think that learning English is slow and much difficult. It’s because we spend less time learning and practicing it than doing our mother tongue.
The following may help us in some way.
We should gain confidence and we must be brave enough to speak English before others.
Don’t be afraid of losing our faces while talking with others in English.
We must make a long and careful study plan. Once we do it, we must take pains to continue learning English every day.
Think about what we have done and decide to study English harder than ever.
Finally we should take every opportunity to practice speaking English as often as possible.

Many students ask for advice about improving(提高)their English. There are three basic questions.

The first question is about oral English. Li Hao from Hubei wrote, “I enjoy watching English films and listening to English songs. But it takes a long time because I find it difficult to understand them all. What do you think?” This is a great way to learn English! Talk about the film or song with your friends, and guess the meanings of the new words while listening. Just enjoy yourself!

The second question is about speaking. Sam, from Suzhou wrote. “Our school has a foreign teacher. But I’m shy and can’t speak to her. What should I do?”

When I visit China, lots of people in the street say, “Hello! How are you? Where are you from? Do you like China?” These are good questions to start a talk. Many people are shy when they speak English, so before you begin, take a deep breath(深呼吸) and smile! Smiling always helps.

The third question is about vocabulary(词汇). Oliver, from Anhui wrote, “I want to remember all the new words. I write them down, but I forget them quickly. What should I do?” Try to remember eight or ten words a day. Write them on pieces of paper and put them in your bedroom and don’t forget to change them every day.
