During the summer vacation, some boys came to a tall tree. They wanted to play a game to see who could climb to the top of the tree first.

Their mothers sat there, looking at the children. David was one of the boys. He was young and short. No one thought he would win the game. When the game started, all of the boys tried to climb as high as they could. They all made it halfway (半途) up the tree before David got to the top of the tree first in the end.

His mother was surprised to see it. She asked, “David, how did you get to the top so quickly?” David said, “The other boys kept looking down as they climbed. When they learned how high they were, they got scared and were afraid of falling down. But I only looked up. When I saw how close I was, I kept climbing.”

It’s true in life that if we keep moving forward (向前) without looking back, we will get close to our dreams.

Felicia Grimmenhag from Sweden doesn’t let anything get in her way, even a life-changing accident. After a serious car accident, Felicia had to get used to getting around in a wheelchair(轮椅). But that didn’t stop her from following her dream of becoming a top horse rider.

In early June 2011, 17-year-old Felicia got hit by a car. When she woke up in the hospital, she found both of her legs were missing. However, Felicia didn’t quit trying to achieve her dream. She wanted to get back on the horse. She had ridden as a little girl and decided in the hospital to try again. She wasn’t sure if she would be able to. But after ten weeks’ training, she could ride once again!

“The horses have meant a lot to me,” Felicia said. “When I sit on a horse, I don’t feel like the disabled Felicia, I feel like the confident(自信的) Felicia.”

She has won many competitions since taken part in competitions around the world, showing she doesn’t need legs to win. Last year, she won silver at the Swedish Championships, and now she is preparing for the Tokyo Paralympics.

“What I have learned from all this is that you should dare to challenge yourself, and remember that you are the only person that sets your own limits(限制),” Felicia said.

This morning, Andrew, a 13-year-old boy, went to a shopping mall together with his father. Now they were happily chatting, and making their way through the crowded food market Suddenly, they heard a cry — a young lady holding a number of bags fell over. Then all the things in the bags spilled across the floor.

Andrew watched for a while, and went on. But then he found his father wasn’t with him. Looking around, he noticed his father bending down and helping the lady pick up the things. Feeling little bad for not trying to stop and help, Andrew simply stood there and waited.

Soon, the father handed the lady all her things. However, the lady simply took them away, even without looking at him. Finally, she said, “I can do it myself!”

Andrew was shocked when seeing the lady’s impolite act.

Even in the sports stores, Andrew spent most of the time complaining (抱怨). Later at dinner, Andrew told his mother the whole story, expecting her to join him in complaining.

Unexpectedly, his mother just kept smiling. Finally, she looked at her husband who was happily enjoying his meal and said, “Son, your father left that woman behind hours ago. Why are you still with her?”

Andrew’s face suddenly turned red!

It’s okay to show anger and unhappiness. However, don’t let them affect (影响) you and how you see the world. Remember: the best thing to stay happy is to let things go!
