Winter is here. It is freezing cold in many Chinese cities. Do you put on your winter coats, sweaters and qiuku?

Qiuku is also called "thermal underwear" (保暖内衣). It keeps people warm in the coldest months of the year.

Because of its pronunciation (发音) in Chinese, English-speaking people jokingly call it "chill cool".

Actually, in Western countries people also wear long underwear, like qiuku. They call them "long johns". Some people think they are named after John Sullivan, a famous British boxer (拳击手). He wore clothes that looked like long underwear while boxing.

But long johns are not very popular among young people in these countries. They think they are not cool. They may also think they will be fine without them, because they won't be outside for very long.

However, doctors may ask you to forget you pride (骄傲) and wear qiuku in winter, or you may easily get arthritis (关节炎).

It’s winter in France. The weather is cold and windy. People are wearing sweaters and scarves. But everyone is having a good time. Friends are having meals in restaurants. In the park, a musician is singing with his group, and some boys are playing football in the square. One old man is taking photos of Eiffel Tower. Look at these young girls, they are playing computer games.

While in Australia, it’s in summer. It’s very hot. People are enjoying sunshine on the beach. Some girls are playing beach volleyball, and two boys are swimming in the sea.
