Two hunters rented(租用) a small plane to fly them to a forest. They told the pilot to come back and pick them up in about two weeks. By the end of the two weeks, they had hunted a lot of animals and they wanted to put all of them onto the plane.
But the pilot said, “This plane can only take one lamb. You’ll have to leave the others behind.”
Then one hunter said, “But last year, another pilot with the same plane let us take two lambs and some other animals onto the plane.”
So the new pilot thought about it. Finally he said, “OK, since you did it last year, I think this year we can do it again.” Then they put all the animals they had hunted onto the plane, and the plane took off. Five minutes later, it crashed.

No one wants to be in a life-or-death situation. However, if you are getting into such a dangerous situation, what will you do, fight or flight?

When 13-year-old Joe Rowlands and his dad were in a kayak (皮划艇) accident, the brave teenager chose to fight. He not only fought for his own life, but also saved his father’s.

On that day, Joe and his father Paul were out on their kayak off the coast of Anglesey in the UK. Suddenly they noticed that the kayak was starting to fill with water. Then they found out there was a hole in the floor of the boat. Without another choice, Paul turned the boat over. He asked Joe to climb on top so that he could push the boat to a nearby island.

However, the rough (汹涌的) waves made it too hard for Paul to push the boat to land. They had to swim without the boat. Luckily, Joe made his way-to the island safely. But when he looked back, he found his dad was no longer swimming. Risking his life, Joe jumped back into the cold water and managed to drag (拽) his dad up onto some rocks. Strong earthquakes hit the east of Japan in the afternoon of March 11, causing several meter-high tsunami(海啸), which killed more than 10,000 people in areas along the coast. Several nuclear plants(核电站) at the coast were broken by the earthquake and tsunami. People living near the plants have been asked to move away. People living within 30 kilometers of the first plant are asked to stay indoors and close all windows.
The breaking of the nuclear plants is causing electricity shortages(电力短缺) in Eastern Japan. As a result, electricity is cut off for 3-hour periods in the area of Tokyo and some other areas during daytime. In order to save electricity, some shops, restaurants and tourist places in the areas are closed for some time every day.   But all major airports and train lines are still open and operating.
For the above reasons, tourists are advised not to visit the eastern areas in the near future. Visits to Western Japan are not affected by the event. People who plan to travel over the coming weeks and months are advised to pay attention to the situation for a few more days before making decisions.

A plane took off from Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur in the early hours of March 8. It was heading to Beijing. But about two hours into the flight, the plane disappeared. There were 239 people on board the Malaysia Airlines flight, including 154 Chinese.

About 12 countries, including China and the US, have joined the search for the missing plane and passengers. All the people were worried about the missing plane. They did a lot of things. Students in Zhejiang, China light candles to pray for the missing plane on March 19.

The plane’s disappearance was a “mystery”, said officials. The plane was flying at a height of more than 10,000 meters when it suddenly lost contact. The weather was clear. The pilots didn’t make any distress calls(求救信号). When a plane crashes, broken parts are usually recovered. But as of March 20, officials have not found anything.

People are also talking about a possible hijacking(劫机). Interpol said that two people on the flight used stolen passports. But that information alone isn’t evidence of a hijack.

The investigation(调查) is still going on. It could take months of even years to find out what on earth happened to the flight.

“We are looking at all possibilities,” said Malaysian Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein. “Our focus now is to find the plane.”
