Many children like to go hiking. Why? Because they can be free from school and their homework. They can also see beautiful views, play with friends or family and so on. If you want to go for a hike, how can you have a happy one?

First, the weather must be fine. Fine weather is the most important for a happy hike. If the weather is fine, you can do a lot of things, like going bike riding and swimming in the river.

Second, go with the people you like. If you go hiking with the people you don’t like, you won’t have a great time.

Third, find the right place. Different people have different ideas about the places. For me, I would like to go for a hike at the seaside.

Lastly, prepare well before going hiking. To have a nice hike, you must have comfortable shoes, much water and some food.

I had a summer camp with my classmates last year. Early in the morning, we gathered (聚集) at the bus station. After saying goodbye to our parents, we got on the bus. It took us more than two hours to arrive at the campground (营地). We got off the bus happily. Laughing and shouting, we jumped and ran all over the place. It was the first time for us to be away from the parents. Some of us started to feel homesick (想家).

However, when the night party and dances began, they stopped feeling homesick. So their homesickness didn’t last (持续) long. The next day, everybody hurried to the boating class. At first, my friends and I worked hard, but the boat wouldn’t listen to us and kept going round and round. Then the teacher taught us how to work together. After many tries, we did much better. Swimming class was my favorite. The swimming teacher was a funny man, and during the class he often made us laugh happily.

During the week I learned a lot of new things and made many new friends. I also learned how to take care of myself.

Our family went to the Yellow Stone National Park last summer vacation. Our son, Tom, wanted to see bears there. And what an experience it was!

When we got there, we put up our tent and went to explore（探险）. As we returned, we heard our daughter Susie cry out. And then we saw a bear go into our camp.

Tom wanted his father to chase（追赶）him away.

His father said, “No. It’s dangerous to chase a bear. And don’t let him chase you.”

Susie said, “What shall we do? Maybe we should climb a tree.”

Tom said, “No. We have to get him out of there. He might go to sleep in our tent.”

“Maybe we could make him leave if we put some honey outside for him to eat.” Susie suggested.

Then I said, “How are you going to get the honey? It’s in the tent.”

We watched the bear go into the tent and heard him upset（翻倒）everything inside.

“It’s foolish for us to try to chase him away.” said my husband, “Leave him alone and wait for him to come out.”

We waited, but the bear stayed inside. We had to sleep in the car that night.
