The story took place in a small town in winter. One Java man met an old lady standing by an expensive car. It was clear that her car broke down. So he stopped his old truck and got out. Although he was smiling, the old lady was worried. “Is he going to hurt me?”

The man could see that she was frightened. So in his friendliest voice he said, “I’m here to help you, madam. Why don’t you wait in the car to get warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.” It took Bryan about fifty minutes to fix the car. The lady felt quite thankful and she asked how much she should pay him.

But Bryan wanted no money. It is normal for him to help others. He said, “If you want to repay me, next time you see someone in need, just give out your friendly hand.”

After saying goodbye, the lady continued down the road till she reached a small cafe. She stopped for something to eat. As the pretty waitress stood next to her, the lady noticed she was nearly eight months pregnant (怀孕). Although she looked tired, she still served the customers with a smile on her face. As the old lady was going to pay the $ 10 bill, she remembered Bryan’s words.

The old lady paid one hundred-dollar bill. But when the waitress returned with the change, the lady was gone. On the table she saw a small note. Her eyes were filled with tears when she read it, “Somebody once helped me the way I'm helping you. If you want to pay me back, continue being kind to others.” Under the note were nine more $100 bills.

Was the old lady an angel? The waitress was so excited that she called her husband to tell the story. “Bryan...Bryan Anderson, my dear... You’re not going to believe what has happened...”

Love needs to be passed on. Everyone can be an angel.

Ye Haitao, a 44-year-old man with paralysis (瘫痪) has helped over 300 children with school lessons for free over the last 21 years.

When Ye was young, he dreamed to be a teacher. He thought educating people was the greatest thing in the world. At the age of 16, he went to university. He studied hard to improve himself for his dream. However, illness got in the way of Ye’s study and life. In the second year of his university, he was so sick that he had to give up his study. Day by day, he couldn’t walk, stand or even sit. He could only lie down in bed all day.

One day some villagers came to Ye’s home for help because the left-children (留守儿童) had problems. Some villagers went to big cities to search for a job, leaving behind their children and parents. But the children and grandparents couldn’t communicate with each other well because of the generation gap (代沟). What’s more, most of the grandparents could hardly read or write. The children really needed help with their homework at home.

Ye started helping these children in the summer of 2002. The students come to his home after school and during summer and winter vacations. They don’t need to pay anything for the tutoring (辅导). Sitting at the desk around Ye’s bed, they always listen to Ye carefully.

Many of Ye’s students have entered high school and even become college students. Seeing the children improve with his help, Ye is quite happy. He knows he is doing a meaningful thing. “It is the smile of these children that keeps me doing this. I get a strong feeling of satisfaction when I see their smiling faces,” Ye says.

As a child, Alain Robert was afraid of heights. One day, when he was 12, he returned home from school. At the front door of his building, he looked for his keys. He didn’t have them. It was 3:30 p.m and his parents worked until 6:00 p.m. Alain looked at his house on the eighth floor. He saw an open window. He closed his eyes and climbed the building. When he opened his eyes, he told himself, “I can do it!” 15 minutes later, he was in his house and his fear of heights was gone.

Today, Alain still climbs buildings. In 2003, he climbed a building in London. In 2004, he climbed Taipei 101 (one of the tallest buildings in the world). To reach the top of the building, Alain used only his hands and special shoes. He had no rope or safety tools. Alain climbs as a hobby. He also does it to make money for children and the homeless. When he climbs, he wants to tell people that if you have a dream ~ something you really want to do ~ it can become real. But you must be brave and keep trying. If something bad happens, don’t give up. Close your eyes, and tell yourself, “I can do it!”
