In life, we should try to combine both money and happiness together. To do this, I suggest the following steps:

Consider the Importance of Simplicity (简朴).

The aim of life should not be to control as many belongings and as much wealth as possible. If you feel happiness is directly related to material belongings, you are making a mistake. We should learn to be pleased with what we have and appreciate the advantages of simplicity.

Do Not Take Money Too Seriously

Does it pain you to spend your own money—even if it is for something useful? The problem with this, however, is that if we are always unwilling to spend money, we miss all the meanings of making it. We should look at money in this way: spending money enables more to come into our lives. It is no good saving a large amount of water unless we use it to produce power; similarly, it is no use accumulating savings if we feel unwilling to spend them.

Reduce Financial (财政的) Worries to the Lowest Degree

We will be happy if we can make money a small part of our lives. To be able to do this, we need to prevent creating situations of debt (负债) as getting out of debt can be difficult and stressful. If you do need to go into debt, plan ahead and find a loan (贷款) which is clear and manageable to repay. Try not to make risky investment plans, as these give you the possibility to gain more as well as to lose a lot more.

Do Not Live to Work

If you spend all your time working, you will have no opportunity to spend your money. Don’t feel guilty about refusing extra work; it is also important to have a rest. It is good if we can feel pleased with work, but if we only spend time working, then our lives will be short of a proper balance.

Almost all cultures celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another in some way. Different cultures celebrate the beginning of a new year in different ways, and at different times on the calendar.

In Western countries, people usually celebrate New Year at midnight on December 31st. People may go to parties, sometimes dressed in formal (正式的) clothes, and they may drink champagne (香槟) at midnight. During the first minutes of the new year, people cheer and wish each other happiness for the year ahead. But some cultures prefer to celebrate the new year by waking up early to watch the sunrise. They welcome the new year with the first light of the sunrise.

Many cultures also do special things to get rid of (摆脱) bad luck at the beginning of a new year. For example, in Ecuador, families make a big doll from old clothes. The doll is filled with old newspapers and firecrackers. At midnight, these dolls are burned to show the bad things from the past year are gone and the new year can start afresh (重新). Other common traditions to keep away bad luck in a new year include throwing things into rivers or the ocean, or saving special things on the first day of the new year.

Other New Year traditions are followed to bring good luck in the new year. One widespread Spanish tradition for good luck is to eat grapes on New Year's Day. The more grapes a person eats, the more good luck the person will have in the year. In France, people eat pancakes for good luck at New Year. In the United States, some people eat black-­eyed peas for good luck—but to get good luck for a whole year you have to eat 365 of them!

World Reading Day was set up by UNESCO in 1995. Its purpose is to encourage people, especially teenagers, to discover the pleasure of reading. It is also the day to honor great writers, like William Shakespeare, who was born or died on that day.

Many countries celebrate World Reading Day. Take the UK as an example. On that day, millions of school children can buy books at a lower price than usual in any bookstore. It has been done every year since 1998. World Reading Day of 2019 in the UK took place on Thursday, March 7th. Please note that this date applies to(适用)the UK and Ireland only. Most other countries celebrate World Reading Day on 23rd April every year.

World Reading Day is also well-known in China. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang does lots of reading every day though he is very busy. He set out a proposal(提议)of encouraging a love for reading in all Chinese people in the Government Work Report.

Reading makes a full man (by Bacon, 1597). So it is necessary for us to spend time in reading every day.
