Many people asked me how I started Pajama (睡衣) Program, but in fact, it seemed that Pajama Program came to me. I never planned to start it.   In the beginning, I just wanted to find my purpose (意义) in life.

I visited a children’s home. I read to them in the evening once a week. One night I watched them go to sleep. There was no changing clothes, no bedtime stories, no hugs from parents. Bedtime should not be like that. I decided to send some pajamas to the children’s home. I couldn’t change the children’s life, but I could give them warm, clean pajamas to sleep in.

The next week I took some pajamas to the children’s home. One little girl didn’t take the pajamas from me. She asked me quietly, “What are these?”

“They’re pajamas,” I said.

“When do I wear them?”

“When you go to bed at night.”

She still didn’t understand.

“What do you usually wear to bed?” I asked her.

“My pants,” she said.

I felt sad. A few weeks later, it seemed that a “raindrop” fell onto my head and the words PAJAMA PROGRAM spoke to me loud. Then I started to tell everyone to give me new pajamas for my birthday, Christmas ..., and I gave them to children in need. And then I found my purpose in life.

Jake and Max are twin (双胞胎) brothers. They show love for volunteering. Their family has always done community services (社区服务). When they were young, they gave up gifts at their birthday parties. Instead, they hoped people to give money to a charity (慈善机构). Jake and Max help two charities. They had some nice ways to help their community, such as donating clothes and books.

When they were seven, Jake and Max were interested in volunteering with a friend at the local homeless shelter to help to cook. Unluckily, they were refused (拒绝) because they were too young. They had to think of another way to help other kids who were also facing a similar problem: wanting to help but being refused because of their age.

“So, they set up a project called Kids That Do Good to hope people to join the community and help others.” The small project has grown into a large website. It brings thousands of interested visitors each year.

Jake and Max are busy with school and after-class activities and other community services. Kids That Do Good hopes kids to build their own volunteering events.

It was Mother’s Day. Chatham was driving his new blue car and enjoying the beauty of nature. A flower shop by the road came into his eyes. So he stopped his car and took a look at some of the flowers. Just then he found a small, cute girl standing next to the shop. 【小题1】 It seemed that she was a little unhappy.

He went up to her and asked, “Can I help you?” “I want to buy some red flowers for my mother. But I have only eighty rupees（卢比）,” said the girl. 【小题2】 He bought a big bouquet（花束）for her and said, “I can take you to your mother.” 【小题3】

Finally they got to a grave（坟墓） “Thank you, Uncle.” Then she ran to the grave and put the roses in front of it.

【小题4】 He then made a U—turn（掉头）and drove back to the same flower shop. He picked some pink roses and drove down two hundred miles to meet his old mother.

【小题5】 But she said, “Why do you drive down all the way? You could talk to me over the phone.” He just kissed his mother and said, “Happy Mother’s Day!”
