Perhaps the best way to start thinking about your career (职业) is to think deeply about yourself. 【小题1】 For example, you can ask yourself some questions. Do you like meeting people? You need to think about what subjects you are good at. 【小题4】 What’s more, if you have a great interest in one or two subjects, you will never be bored with studying them. 【小题5】 You should read as much as you can about careers that may be suitable (适合的) for you. You will find out, for example, what examinations you need to pass to get a certain job. If possible, try to talk to people who do the job that you are interested in to know more information.

Georgia Roy is a paramedic (急救员). Craig Jackson from the magazine, is interviewing (采访) her.

Craig: What’s it like to work as a paramedic, Georgia?

Georgia: Every day is different, because we get so many different calls for help. We might go to a car accident or to a house where someone is sick. Some days are very busy and some days are quiet. Sometimes we work during the day and sometimes we work at night. I always work with a partner—another paramedic. When we get a call from someone, we get into the ambulance (救护车) and drive to them as quickly as we can. We use the siren (警报器) to tell other drivers to move out of our way.

Craig: What makes a good paramedic?

Georgia: You have to be good at talking to people. You have to stay calm and quickly find out what their problem is. Sometimes we can help them, but sometimes we have to take them to the hospital.

Craig: What do you do between calls?

Georgia: When we’re not out on the road, my partner and I check the ambulance. We also check the medicine and other things.

Craig: What’s the best thing about your job?

Georgia: I just like giving help to people when they need it most. Once a woman had a baby in the ambulance. That was amazing!
