Many of us like reading books. In the past, we could only read traditional (传统的) paper books. Now, we can also read e-books. They still have covers and pages, but they’re not made of paper. They are pictures on a screen. So we can’t really touch (触摸) them or turn them with our fingers.

Some people really love e-books. They can read them on their phones or other electronic devices (电子设备). Because of that, they can carry a library of books with them all the time. In that way e-books are great. However, in another way, they’re not so great because they change (改变) our way we read.

With traditional books, we can focus on what we are reading. Sometimes we feel like we’re in the stories and forget about the real world. But that’s not true with e-books. With them, our attention (注意力) can be on other things.

With e-books, we can look up new words right away. That takes us out of the stories to an online dictionary. When reading, we can easily change to other things. For example, we can check our e-mails, use the Internet, shop online and more. What’s more, our eyes stop reading everything on the page. We just look for key (关键) words to get the information. Some people don’t mind (介意) that, but for others, it takes the fun of reading.
