This year’s Spring Festival falls on Jan 22, marking the ending of the year of the Tiger. In this year, many couples gave birth to their “tiger baby”, which they think has a good meaning. Do you know anyone born in the Year of the Tiger? What’s their personality like? 【小题1】 If so, then they are a typical “tiger”.

In Chinese culture, tigers are considered the king of all beasts. They symbolize power, energy, protection, generosity and unpredictability (难以捉摸). Tigers are regarded as fearless creatures. 【小题2】 Tigers have an important cultural significance not just in China, but across Asia. As they mostly live in Asia, for many people in the West they have become a cultural symbol of Eastern countries. 【小题3】 In the book Life of Pi (少年派的奇幻漂流), Canadian writer Yann Martel chose a Bengal tiger (孟加拉虎) as the partner for Indian boy Pi on his survival adventure in the Pacific Ocean.

【小题4】 Brave warriors were given the name the “lion”. In Europe, the animal is a national emblem (象征) for England as well as for Norway, Spain, Belgium and 13 other countries.

But in the West, tigers are also seen as a very powerful animal. 【小题5】 Another famous phrase is: “Eye of the Tiger”, which means fierceness and strength.

Just like tigers serve as a symbol of protection in Chinese culture, we can only hope that in the Year of the Tiger more people can learn about tigers and help protect them and their habitats from further destruction.

It is a very unusual story about Ann Jones, from Washington D. C. and her friend Bella, a dolphin.

A dolphin can see everything in one's body with their special organs(器官). When there is a sick person and a healthy one, a dolphin will swim with the sick one. It knows who is sick or healthy. Almost four years Bella swam with Ann all the time to let her know that she was sick and that she was protecting her.

Before Ann went to swim with the dolphin, she went to a doctor but was told that she was well. Ann kept telling the doctor she had a pain in her body. And the doctor kept saying she was OK. This went on year after year. That was why Ann turned to the dolphins. When she swam with Bella on the first trip, the dolphin tried to tell her that something was wrong. After the trip, she had a body scan(扫 描). It showed that Ann had a cancerous turnor(恶性肿瘤)as big as an egg in her body. She might die in about six months but Bella helped save her life.

“I'm doing great!” said Ann. “I've got healthy again and I go to check my body every three months. And I think I will still be healthy in the future! Thanks, Bella!”

Not long ago, Ann made a trip to see her old friend and swam again with Bella, who helped save her life.
