It was in autumn. A woman was ill in hospital but nobody______her, for she had no children and herhusband(丈夫) died two years ago. There was a tree outside her room. She noticed theleaves(叶子) drop. An old artist knew that. He decided to help this woman. On a cold windy night, all yellow leaves fell down. The artist painted a green and yellow leaf, and then put it in the tree. The next morning, when the woman looked out of the window and saw the last leaf, a feeling of______ran through her heart. She wanted to be alive. She didn’t want to fall down like other leaves. From then on, she became better and better and lived a long time. Don’t______your hope for life at any time.

She used to sleep on the sidewalk of the Fifth Street Post Office. I could smell her before I came close. She wore ________ clothes and her mouth was nearly toothless. I didn’t see her talk with ________ often. If she was not asleep, she talked to herself. I always felt sorry for her. What a poor lady! She must be hopeless and hungry.

When Grace Berbig was 7 years old, her mom became ill. Every day, Grace and her two younger sisters would write letters ________ of messages of love. These letters brought joy to their mom. ________, their mother passed away three years later. After that, their father often reminded them that ________ was a choice, and that it was their job to turn the heartbreaking event into ________ positive (积极的).

When Grace got into high school, she ________ many organizations to offer help to others, but she ________ felt like she was doing enough. “I want to ________ a special way for people to help. Everyone can be a part of it, no matter ________ they have money or not. ”

In October, 2018, Grace ________ a club named Letters of Love at her high school to support children in fighting serious illnesses ________ letter-writing and craft-making.

To her surprise, more than 100 students ________ at the first club meeting. Letters of Love grew so fast that Grace had to raise money online to help cover the ________ of craft-making materials the next year.

Now, Letters of Love has grown to more than 25 ________ with over 1,000 members. They ________ support for more than 60,000 patients in children’s hospitals around the world.

Grace took a gap year (间隔年) before she started college so that she could focus on Letters of Love and ________ other projects, including publishing a children's book.

“The goal of the book is to tell children that they are never too young to change the world,” Grace said.
