Healthy eating doesn’t just mean what you eat, but how you eat. Here is some advice on healthy eating.

Eat with others. It can help you to see others’ healthy eating habits. If you usually eat with your parents, you will find the food you eat is more delicious.

Listen to your body. Ask yourself if you are really hungry. Have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty—sometimes you are just thirsty, and you need no food. Stop eating before you feel full.

Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Since you don’t eat for the past ten hours, your body needs food to get you going, so you must eat something for breakfast. You will be smarter after eating breakfast.

Eat healthy snacks (点心) like fruit, yogurt (酸奶) or cheese. We all need snacks sometimes. In fact, it is a good idea to eat two healthy snacks between your three meals. This doesn’t mean you can eat a bag of chips.

Don’t eat dinner late. With our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last minute. You’d better eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed. This will give your body a chance to digest most of the food before you rest for the next 8—10 hours.

Overweight (超重) is one of the biggest health problems now. Being overweight affects (影响) more than how you look. Too much fat can kill you. What’s worse, overweight children turn into overweight adults (成人) . If you’re obese now, you will probably grow into an obese adult. But here’s good news. You can fight overweight.

Change your eating habits

You are what you eat. Kids like snacks. Have you listed any healthy snacks? One study of eating habits shows that soft drinks are the first in the snack list. Next, kids choose salty snacks, like chips. What’s more, the list is full of junk food from No. 3 to No. 11. Finally, No. 12, kids pick a healthy snack — fruit. So, think about your snack choice (选择) again.

More TV means more fat

Nearly every American kid watches TV for 2 hours and 56 minutes every day — that adds up to 44 days a year of sitting. More TV (or more Internet surfing, or more computer games) means more fat.

For years, American parents are trying to get children to drink fewer sugary( 含糖的)drinkssuch as Coca Cola and Pepsi because sugary drinks make many people get fat. And being fat canbring many health problems later in life. Children are drinking fewer sugary drinks these days. They turn to sports drinks. There are many ads(广告)for sports drinks on TV and they show sports stars or movie stars having the drink.

These ads make the drinks look heathy. In fact, they are not. Sports drinks have lots of sugar, too.

Scientists at Harvard University did a survey(调查)in 2017 to find out how many sports drinks high School students had. They surveyed 22, 000 students and found those students were drinking sports drinks more than they did before. Almost one third of the students drank one to three sports drinks each week. And more than one tenth had four to six drinks. Students in sports teams would have sports drinks each day and they maybe had one or more. The same was true of those students who watched TV for over two hours every day.

"Although water is the best choice for kids, sometimes having a sports drink is fine. If someone is on a long bike ride or in an all-day race, he can have one," said Tomas Hardy, a health expert(专家). “But if kids play sports or have soccer practice for only 20 minutes, they just need water or a little fruit juice.”
