This is the story of how cholera (霍乱) changed my village.

Tiny germs (病菌) of cholera, small but dangerous, spread through the river. Without realizing, women carried cholera home in the water. Flies carried cholera on their feet. Unwashed hands spread it, too. We have cholera germs in our water, on our food and on our fingers.

It happened so fast. By morning my father was very sick. I was so scared. I went for help. Once the nurse looked at my father, she knew it was cholera. We had to work fast to save him. We made a special drink to help him. First, we made the water safe. We filtered (过滤) it through cloth and boiled it for one minute. Then we mixed half a teaspoon of salt and six teaspoons of sugar in one liter of this safe water. It tasted like tears not too salty. ▲ But he soon felt a little stronger. The nurse explained to me that not everyone who has cholera germs gets sick like my father, but they can still spread the disease.

Now I needed to take safe water to my village and teach them how to protect themselves from cholera. I saw a girl carrying water. I told her she could make the water safe by adding chlorine (氯) and waiting half an hour. There was a man about to eat with unclean hands. I told him to always wash his hands with soap and safe water after going to the toilet. I found the mother preparing unsafe food. I told her first we must wash our hands with safe water. Then we had to wash and peel the food. Cook it and always eat it hot and protect it from flies.

I spread the word all over my village and ran to find my father. I was so happy to see he was better. We made our village safe from cholera. Spread the word. Your village can be safe, too.

A: Painkiller

Uses: for headaches, muscle pain or the common cold.

Warnings: Keep at room temperature. If you are pregnant (孕妇）or breastfeeding, ask a doctor before use. If more than 3 tablets(药片) are taken at one time, get medical help immediately. How to take : For adults and children 12 years of age and older: take 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours. If pain(疼痛) is not better, 2 tablets may be taken. Do not take more than 5 tablets in 24 hours. For children under 12 years old, ask a doctor before use.

B: Cream

Uses: for pain and infection(感染) from small cuts and burns on skin.

Warnings: Use on skin only. Do not eat. Do not use in eyes or over large parts of body. Visit a doctor if you have serious cuts or burns. Stop using and visit a doctor if you still have the problem after one week or if the pain is worse. Keep at room temperature. How to use: Only use on adults and children aged 2 or older. Clean the cut or burn. Put the cream on the cut or burn up to three times a day. If you are pregnant, ask a doctor before use. For children under 12 years old, ask a doctor before use.
