A group of Chinese doctors went to Italy on Wednesday to help prevent the spread (扩散) of COVID-19 (新型冠状病毒) in this European country. The seven member teams took medical materials to help the country.

In a telephone talk with Chinese medical officers on Tuesday, officers from Italy said their country was learning from China’s experience in stopping the virus (病毒), hoping China could offer it with face masks, medical clothes and gloves.

Some Chinese cities and provinces have close ties (纽带) with Italy. They have agreed to offer a helping hand. The first materials were from East China’s Zhejiang Province. Qi Haoran, a Junior One student, was quite busy over the past winter vacation – and not just with homework. Qi, together with 10 other classmates made a volunteer group to call on people to join the Clean Your Plate Campaign (光盘行动).
The 11 students went to many restaurants and told people the importance of saving food.“Excuse me, do you know that 950 million people around the world still haven’t got enough to eat? Could you please not waste food?” They would say this kind of thing hundreds of times every day.
The Clean Your Plate Campaign began on the Internet in January. It ____ people to reduce food waste.
China in these years had serious problems with wasted food. CCTV reported in January that the food Chinese people waste every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year.

China's telecommunication giant(通讯巨头)Huawei has launched an App called Story Sign that will make it easier for deaf children and their parents to read bedtime stories.

The App uses image and optical(视觉的)character recognition(识别)to help deaf children to read by turning written text into a show of sign language. Users can also choose a book from the App's book library that is shown in sign language using active characters. The first book on the Story Sign platform is the popular children's book Spot the Dog. The developers aimed to make the App's main character Star interesting for both boys and girls.

“We created Story Sign to help make it possible for families with deaf children to enjoy a colorful story time,” said Andrew Garrihy, Huawei's CMO for Western Europe. “We hope that by making people realize the deaf literacy issues(识字问题), people will be encouraged to give support to one of the fantastic charity partners whom we are working with.”

There are about 32 million deaf children around the world. Many struggle(挣扎)to learn to read, often because of a lack of resources that bridge the gap between sign language and written text.
