When we help our parents prepare a meal, some of us can’t help putting our hands into the big tub (桶)of rice. So, what makes rice interest us so much?
When we put our hands deep into a tub of rice, it causes gentle pressure to our fingers. This can make the blood in our fingers run faster and more smoothly. The softness of rice will also create a feeling of relaxation. It can certainly reduce our stress and worry.
Rice conducts (传导) heat better than air.
Rice has the ability to conduct heat. It can carry away some heat from our hands and that will reduce hand temperature.
Sweat (汗水) can be taken away by rice.
Rice is rich in starch (淀粉). When rice is around our hands, rice starch takes away sweat.
We can see that the feelings of putting our hands into rice are connected with our blood, temperature and many other things.

The scientists in Mosa Meat, a company in the Netherlands, grow meat in a lab. It looks just like the meat you buy in a supermarket.
Why are people making lab-grown meat? It might be better for the environment. Most meat comes from animals that are raised on factory farms. The animals are crowded into a small space. A lot of gas is produced and makes the climate worse.
Johanna Melke is a biologist(生物学家) at Mosa. “People want to eat meat and we can grow meat in a lab,” she says. “This is how we solve the problem.”
To produce the meat, a tiny piece of muscle(肌肉) is taken from a cow first. It doesn’t hurt much. The muscle is taken to a lab and put into a special broth(液体培养基) that helps the muscle grow. From this, something like hamburger meat is made.
Mosa is not the only company to do this. More than 70 companies make more than just beef. They can grow meat from a chicken, fish, even a mouse. That’s used to make cat treats.
Mark Post helped set up Mosa Meat. He says people know that factory farming can be harmful, but it’s hard for them to give up meat. “I wanted to make the choice for those people easier,” He says.
So how does lab-grown meat taste? Laura Jaekisch is a scientist at Mosa. She abandoned meat years ago. She tasted Mosa’s lab-grown beef. “I started loving beef again.” she says.
