With spring soon coming to an end, people in China are looking forward to the first solar term (节气) of summer, Lixia, which falls on May 5 of this year. Lixia, or the Start of Summer, is the seventh of the 24 Chinese solar terms. It symbolizes (象征) the passing from spring to summer.
Because of the heat of summer, plants will grow faster. The crops also welcome the rapid growing season. In the south of China, farmers are happy to welcome the arrival of Lixia. This is the best time of the year to plant early rice for them.
________ For example, in some places people cook “Five-Colored Rice”. It is usually made from five kinds of beans, including red bean, yellow bean, black bean and green bean. It stands for people’s good wishes for a colorful life. In some areas, children wear a bag with an egg around their necks. This is believed to help prevent abdominal distension (腹胀). It’s common illness among ancient Chinese children during summer.
On the day of Lixia, people also have the tradition of eating three kinds of food: cherries, green plums, and green wheat. Since there are so many different kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables from which to select, what gets eaten during this time can influence the country. In ancient times, during Lixia, emperors would give ice to their ministers. Common citizens would have icy drinks.
Other Lixia traditions include the singing of many kinds of folk songs. People also weigh themselves on Lixia. When the summer passes, they’ll weigh themselves again to see how many pounds they have lost during the hot season.

As we know, the over-use of
environmental problems. Scientists are trying to find new clean energies that does not pollute the air, the water or the ground. Solar power(太阳能) is one of them. Solar power is a kind of electricity which is produced by taking energy from the sun, using solar panels(板).
Solar power has many advantages. The power is easy to get and will never be used up. Whenever it is sunny, there is power. The power is clean and renewable(可再生的). It helps to reduce waste and pollution.
However, the power is not as widely used as expected(预期). One problem is that a solar power system needs sunshine. Some areas with a lot of rain, like the UK, are not suitable to develop solar power systems. Secondly, a solar power factory needs a large place to fix enough solar panels to collect sunshine. Maybe an area in the desert would be perfect place for such a factory to build. What’s more, solar panels are expensive though the energy itself doesn’t cost anything.
Today scientists are trying to develop solar power systems. Maybe one day, solar power will be one of the most important clean energies in our life.

We’ve all had bad experiences with restaurants, stores or hotels. Maybe you’ve been to a restaurant that served terrible food. Perhaps you’ve been to a store that had high prices and bad service. Or maybe you’ve booked a hotel and found out later that the room was nothing like the advertisement(广告).
These days, we have a better chance of stopping these unpleasant surprises. We can do this by using apps. An app is a computer program on a smartphone. You can use apps to do almost anything. App can help you play games, get directions, talk to friends, and so on.

If you like a hotel that you stayed in, you can tell people that it was wonderful. If you think that the food in a certain restaurant was bad, then you can tell people not to eat there. Other people can use their app to read your reviews.
Plenty of people prefer not to use these review apps. Many of these people think that it’s a waste of time to look through websites and read reviews. These people prefer to go out and decide for themselves whether or not a service is good. However, review apps are getting more and more popular every day. Some apps are for exact services.
