Jerry West was very sad when his lovely dog Whitey suddenly lost her ability 【小题1】 (walk) in December 2010. He wanted to help her. After 【小题2】(learn) that it would take several hundred dollars for a doggie wheelchair (狗用轮椅) and two weeks to come, West built a doggie wheelchair for his lovely dog 【小题3】 his own.

Soon, “Whitey was walking around in her new wheelchair on the grass,” he said. “She lived her everyday life 【小题4】 (happy) for another two years before she died.”

Some people encouraged West to make more wheelchairs for other 【小题5】 (dog) that couldn’t walk with their legs. Through his Rolling Dog Project, West 【小题6】(send) about 80 free wheelchairs to dog owners who aren’t able to buy one so far, and now they are used by the dogs.

“I refuse to accept money from the dog owners 【小题7】 I just want to do something good,” explained West.

“I know, for many people, their pet 【小题8】(be) like a family member," West added, “It’s all about giving dogs 【小题9】 new chance to have a 【小题10】(live) life. It’s also saving them.”

Fred is a high school student. 【小题1】 order to remember her best friend who died of cancer, she decided to do something for those who were less lucky. So she started Beary Merry Christmas. From then on, she tried 【小题2】 best to help poor kids.

Fred began with the idea of collecting donated(捐赠) bears in her country. She gave them to children 【小题3】 homes as gifts. “A bear is worth much more than a toy to them,” she said. “It means love from the world.”

Later Fred started a group. Now she and other group members do activities to raise money every year. They not only give away the bears, but 【小题4】 clothing, meals and books.

“I love making friends with the kids,” Fred said. “It’s cool to hear their stories and see 【小题5】 happy they are,” she added.

A beach cleanup brings people together to take trash (垃圾) away from a beach. Many 【小题1】 (university) organize the cleanups. And they often work with local governments to 【小题2】 (proper) deal with any trash that is collected. My husband, Josh, and I go to as many beach cleanups as we can. We even wrote about how much we have enjoyed beach cleanups on our blog. It is one of our 【小题3】 things to do.

You might not think that 【小题4】 (pick) up trash sounds like fun. But cleaning up a beach, especially if there is a lot of trash, is very helpful. A beach cleanup is a good way to help improve the 【小题5】, get exercise and meet new people. Some beaches are covered with so much trash that cleaning them up might seem 【小题6】 (possible). But you can 【小题7】 the task in just a few hours with a group of volunteers. By the time you are done, you will 【小题8】 (encourage) by the results. You might have even made a few new friends!

My first time joining a beach cleanup was in Costa Rica. Our group walked 30 minutes to a small beach called “Playa Basura” . We worked hard 【小题9】 about two hours and filled over 100 trash bags. The difference was amazing. Trash on beaches like Playa Basura won’t end 【小题10】 people stop trash from getting into the oceans. But every beach cleanup helps.
