Whether studying for exams, working on a project or writing a paper, we’ve all been under great pressure at some point. When it gets a bit strong, we can reach a high level of tiredness — the terrible burnout (过度疲劳) .

However, that feeling of tiredness is not just physical. It can be mental (心理的) as well. According to Psychology (心理学), today, burnout isn’t just caused by working long hours; it is more about being under great pressure for a long time. The result can be feelings of anger, sadness and tiredness. It can even kill our creativity and reduce our productivity.

But what can we do to avoid the bad influence of burnout? Well, there is some ad vice that may help you. Psychologist Albert Bandura thinks that you should believe in your ability to complete a task at hand. The feeling that you are able to succeed means that a difficult task might be less difficult and tiring.

Finding ways to express your creative side may help, too. Not everyone can stay creative in their jobs, so they need to find other ways. They could paint, write or take part in the local theater. All of these may help people get away from the huge pressure in their working life.

Looking after yourself and things around you can also be helpful. The result is that you live in a clean and positive environment. We should have healthy and positive thoughts instead of negative ones. Having a positive mental attitude (态度) towards everything you do means that you may feel more confident in yourself as well.

Burnout is a common condition connected with the pressure of the modern world. It has a huge influence on your work and life in general. We can deal with the burnout step by step, which can do good to not just us, but our bosses and families.

Dear Mrs. Smith,
I was a student of yours in Grade Six, and I hope you still remember me. I’m writing this letter because I want to let you know that the school year with you was important and special to me. It made a great contribution(贡献) to my life.
I know I was very quiet in your class, and you never said much to me. But you did something that made a big difference in my life. You see, all through my first years in schools. I hated to read. Books were just words that had very little to do with me, and I was bored by them. I’ll never forget the first day of Grade Six when you took out a thick book and began to read the story to our class. Your voice seemed to change with the people in the story, and you drew pictures in my mind as you read aloud. Since that day, I couldn’t wait until after lunch when you would read to the class. You read us all kinds of wonderful books.
During the summer after my year in your class, I missed hearing the stories you would read. So one day I picked up a book and read it all on my own. I found out that I could make the words interesting, too. Now, I love to read! Thank you for opening the world of books for me.
Yours,
Linda

Happiness is a feeling that lights up your eyes, makes your steps light and makes you want to sing for no reason. Everyone wants to be happy. But sometimes, a guest comes in without invitation. It’s unhappiness. Don’t let it get you down. Send it away!

When you are happy, the world feels like a better place. As the saying goes: When you smile, the world smiles with you; when you cry, you cry alone. Wearing a smile will make you more charming and help you to win lots of friends. A good mood always gives you hope, which makes trouble and problems easier to handle.

No matter how happy you are, it’s normal to feel angry, sad or gloomy once in a while. Life is full of ups and downs. We can’t change the way life is, but we can do our best to change a bad situation into a good one. To help us do this, it’s good to know some of the factors (因素) that influence happiness.

One of the biggest factors is social relationships. People who are close to family and friends are happier than people who don’t have those relationships. Talking and sharing is a good way to relax and build confidence. Knowing someone is there for you will make you braver and more outgoing.

Another factor is work or school. If you enjoy school, even if you have lots of homework or extra classes, you will still feel that your school life is meaningful and happy. But if you hate school, your negative attitude may cause you to feel bored and upset that you have to do so much work.

A third factor is your attitude towards life. How do you feel if you fail in an exam? Maybe you think it’s unfair because you always study hard and should get a good mark. You can’t stop blaming yourself. Or, maybe you accept it. You go through the paper carefully, find out why you made stupid mistakes, and tell yourself, “Take it easy! I’ll do better next time!” Your attitude makes a big difference.

Most of us have experienced unforgettable moments in our lives. The moment that I will never forget happened when I was fifteen.

For the first fifteen years of my life, I was the only child in my family. I didn’t have any siblings. Luckily, I had always had my parents, who loved and cared about me a lot. They helped solve any problems and they did everything for me. What I had never really thought about was that, someday, one of them would no longer be there for me.

One day, I found out that my mother was pregnant(怀孕), which was big news in my family. Everyone was excited and happy, especially me. I imagined that I would have a baby brother, and I thought about playing and having fun with him. One day after school, when I ran to the hospital, my brother had already been born. But my mother was still inside the operating room, while my father waited worriedly outside. After waiting for a long time, the doctor came out and told us that they had stopped the bleeding. He told us not to worry and my mother would be fine.

Many thoughts flashed through my mind. I could only imagine that my life would be full of darkness, sadness and hopelessness. I would never again have the chance to enjoy the love of my mother. During these fifteen years, my mother was always around like my dearest friend, watching over me, no matter what happened. I could not imagine how I was possibly going to live without her.

Today, my brother is almost two years old. On the day of his birthday, I always remember this unforgettable event in my life. I think I'm a really lucky person, with great parents and a lovely brother.
