John Brown, an office worker lives in Washington. He inherited（继承）$1,000,000 after his parent died. He didn't feel happy at all. His college friends were looking for their first jobs, but he didn't have to. John decided to keep living a simple life like everyone else. He didn't tell any of his friends and gave $ 100,000 of his money to a charity that he helped poor children. Today he is 36, and he still wears cheap clothes and drives a small car only, but he is much happier.

So far, John has helped 15 children from poor countries all over the world, $200 a month for each. The child does not receive the money in cash(现金).The money is paid for the child's education, food, medical care and clothing. John receives a report each year on the child's progress. They can write to each other, but usually the children do not speak English.

Once John went to meet a little girl he was helping in Africa. He said that the meeting was exciting. "When I met her, I felt very happy." He said. "I saw that the money was used for a very good plan. It brought me closer to the child in a way that only giving money cannot." "I want to do everything I can. I will go on helping those children in need." He added.

There is a Helping Hand Club in our neighborhood and I am a member of it. We join the club because we want to help others and share our different skills. We all need help because we may have problems in our lives. The members meet very often and every time we have a good time.

As for me, I am good at fixing computers. I can help people with their computer problems.

If you have some second-hand books or old clothes, you can give them to Lucy and Lily. They collect these things and give them to people in need.

Peter is a cook. He gives cooking lessons. He shares his cooking skills with us. He also cooks for some old people.

Jenny and Judy are animal lovers. They help people walk their dogs. They say they enjoy it. We call them dogs’ friends.

Now, there are about fifty members in the club.

When the world stops, a Chinese delivery (投递) driver has continued working as the virus (病毒) spread across China. The delivery driver is Gao Zhixiao, who was featured on the cover of Time magazine for March 19.

Born into a poor family in Ningxia, Gao went to Beijing to look for a job at the age of 16. He tried different jobs to make a living. He worked as a shopping guide before he finally became a delivery driver.

After the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (新冠病毒), Gao and his wife decided to stay in Beijing rather than return to Ningxia. There’s plenty of work for him to do during quarantine (隔离期). Gao drives more than 161 kilometers on his scooter (小型摩托车) to fulfill 40 to 70 orders every day. And people count on delivery services more than ever.

Gao once received an order that required him to buy medicine for a patient from a hospital. He thought about it for a second, but then picked up the order, because he thought the customer might be in very great need of the medicine.

The customer turned out to be an elderly woman who lived alone. Gao first drove to her home to get the prescription (处方) paper. And then he rushed to the hospital to fetch the medicine she needed. When he found that the woman hadn’t eaten, he not only helped cook a bowl of noodles with two boiled eggs but took out the trash when he left.

“I think the reason why Time picked me is that I helped an elderly person in need. Although it is a warm story, I’m no different when dealing with anyone else,” he says. Gao just hopes his tiny bit can show the Western world the strong cohesion (凝聚力) of China!
