Learning to say “no” politely

The word “no” is easy to read. However, sometimes it’s hard to say it to others. When you want to say “no”with more politeness, what expressions can you use? Here 【小题1】 (be) some advice for you.

On a plane, when a service girl asks, “Do you need coffee?” You may hear this answer—“Thanks. I’m fine.” Here, the speaker doesn’t use the word “no” directly, but 【小题2】 (send) the message that he doesn’t want the coffee.

Another answer would suggest something else the girl can bring. For example, “No, thanks, but I’d like some water.”

●Sorry, I can’t do this right now.

●I’m afraid I can’t, but thank you for 【小题4】 (ask).

●Please accept that I cannot come.

Sometimes, it may be more difficult to say “no” to a 【小题5】 (friend) request. In this case, we should explain why we cannot help. Here is 【小题6】 example.

“I’m sorry. I would like 【小题8】 (look) after it, but I’m going out. I know it will be hard for you to find someone to do so. I 【小题9】 (try) to help you next time.”
