Nanjing is a city that has played an important role in Chinese history for thousands of years. Nanjing 【小题1】 (name) the capital city first in 229 AD during the Three Kingdoms period. When Dave and I got the chance 【小题3】 (travel) to it, we jumped at it. We hadn’t known anything about Nanjing before going, but hearing that it was a popular destination from Shanghai, we were excited to explore it. It turns out that Nanjing is one of our favourite 【小题4】 (place) to visit in China.

We first went to Nanjing Niushoushan Cultural Park. A trolley (电车) took us to the top of the mountain 【小题5】 we could view the immaculate (圣洁的) Buddhist Palace that was built into the side of the mountain. 【小题6】 (open) in 2015, it is an example that proves the traditional and the modern can co-exist.

But soon we 【小题7】 (realize) that a real treat was inside the palace when we took the escalator (自动扶梯) 6 stories underground to see the Thousand-Buddha Hall. With a height of 28 metres, the golden hall is 【小题8】 (impress).

We highly recommend 【小题9】 (take) a full day to explore the Niushoushan Cultural Park to visit all the sites on the mountains. And do remember visiting the Usnisa Palace is 【小题10】 must.

Some years ago, I went to Australia with my friend, Chris. We decided to drive across the country to Brisbane. The drive was going to take four days and most of 【小题1】 was across the desert.

The first day was a lot of fun as we were excited and 【小题2】 (laugh) at each other's jokes. By the third day of driving in the seemingly endless desert, we began to get bored. We had been quiet 【小题3】 a few hours when Chris found some kangaroos in the distance. We decided to get a closer look. Chris speeded up 【小题4】 (catch) up with the kangaroos. We were very close to the kangaroos—too close—when we heard a loud BANG!

Chris 【小题5】 (stop) the car and we got out. Behind the car was a large kangaroo lying【小题6】 (complete) quiet on the ground. Chris went over to the kangaroo and put his baseball cap on its head. He took off his sunglasses and put them on the kangaroo and did the same with his jacket. Then he put his arm 【小题7】 the kangaroo and told me to take a photo of them together. While I was ready to take 【小题8】 (photo), the kangaroo suddenly woke up, looked at Chris, and jumped away into the distance before we could do anything.

I started laughing but Chris looked very serious. He said his wallet and passport were in the jacket. I started laughing even 【小题9】 (hard). I stopped laughing, however, when he said 【小题10】 our car keys were also in the jacket!
