Space tour is not all about rockets—large space balloons can do it too! The company HALO Space in Spain completed the first test flight of its balloon in December, 2022. This means another company joined the competition of making space tour a reality.
During the test flight, the balloon reached an altitude of 37 kilometers where passengers would be able to look at the Earth from the blackness of space, according to Daily Mail. When the flights are available, the company aims to carry 3,000 passengers on 400 trips every year.
How does a space balloon work? The balloon is usually filled with helium or hydrogen, which are both much lighter than air, and it flies up.
According to NASA, the balloon is filled with the amount of gas that will give it enough lift to get off the ground and rise. As it rises, the gas inside the balloon grows larger.
The balloon stops when the density of the gas inside and the air outside is about the same, it begins to fall down as gas goes out slowly.
So the whole trip is not intense. The Space Perspective in US says that the trips are about relaxation. The balloon rises slowly at 12 miles (about 18.3 kilometers) an hour, and it takes about two hours to get to the 37 km altitude. It also takes another two hours to go back to the land.
Since its successful test flight in June 2022, Space Perspective Company started selling tickets for spaceflights in 2024—and it has already sold out. The company now buys ships to turn them into “floating spaceports”, reported Daily Mail. By lifting the balloon from ships on the sea, there will be more chances to enjoy the tour, such as flights at sunrise and sunset.

Are you thinking about travelling alone? You must have a million questions: Where should you go? Will there be someone to talk to? How do you stay safe? And is it all right to travel alone?
In fact, travelling alone is not as scary as it seems. Here are some good tips.
Choose a place where you feel comfortable and safe
Truth be told, travelling alone for the first time is more about, the experience than the destination.
Make a plan
Always make a plan. That way you’ll avoid worrying too much over where you’re staying, what to see and how you’re getting from A to B.
Book hotels ahead of time
Talk to people
If you’re going to a touristy—place like Thailand, there are lots of other people who are travelling alone. Most likely, they’ll be easy to talk to and they’ll want to communicate.
Let someone know where you are
Your family and friends love you and probably worry about you every day, so text them and let them know what you’re up to throughout your trip.
根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入文中空白处的最佳选项,选项中有一项为多余选项。
A.That will make you and them feel safer. |
B.The first thing you need to do is believe in yourself. |
C.They might also ask you to join them for dinner or a beer. |
D.This can make you less nervous when you’re travelling alone for the first time. |
E.So make sure to choose a place which you feel comfortable with. |
From BETTY KING Sent Friday, 14 May To Grandma Subject My holiday in Paris |
Hi, Grandma! Here I am in Paris. Jenny and I arrived the day before yesterday. Aunt Joan and Uncle Pete met us at the airport. We were tired so we relaxed at home and began our tour of the city yesterday. Yesterday we went to the Louvre Museum. It has many world-famous works of art, such as the Mona Lisa. In the evening we had dinner in a French restaurant. The food was delicious! This morning we took a walk. There are shops and restaurants everywhere, and I love the street markets. They sell such good fruit and vegetables. We also did some shopping. I bought a present for you. I hope you’ll like it! At about three o’clock, we took the Paris Underground to the Eiffel Tower. It is really high. There were lots of tourists, so first of all, we had to wait in line for an hour, and then we went to the top. We waited until all the lights were on. It was wonderful! Tomorrow we’re going to visit a famous palace and take a boat tour on the River Seine. I’ll write again. Love, Betty |
