One evening, Anne was at home doing her homework. Matthew was home, but Marilla went to town with the Barrys and Mrs. Lynde. Suddenly, Anne looked up and saw Diana standing at the door. She looked very worried.

“What is the matter, Diana?” cried Anne.

“Oh, Anne,” said Diana nervously. “Minnie May is ill!”

Matthew knew Diana’s father and mother were away in town. He quietly got his cap and coat and went for the doctor. The two little girls ran to Diana’s house hand in hand. Minnie May was Diana’s three-year-old sister. She was very sick. Anne saw her and immediately (立即) went to work. She looked after many children before and knew what to do.

“First we must have lots of hot water. Put the fire on. I’m going to give her some medicine (药).” Minnie May did not like the medicine, but Anne did not give up. All night, Diana and Anne stayed with Minnie May. It was three o’clock when Matthew came with the doctor. But by then, Minnie May was sleeping. Anne told the doctor what she did. He was very impressed. Later on, he told Mr. and Mrs. Barry, “That little red-headed girl is very smart. She saved that baby’s life.”

The next day at dinner, Marilla had something important to tell Anne.

“Mrs. Barry was here this afternoon, Anne. She says thank you, and she is very sorry she acted as she did about the wine (酒).”

That night, Anne was invited to the Barry’s for a lovely dinner. They all said wonderful things about her, and she felt very special.

The best part about the Internet is its ability to give the platform to generous(慷慨的)and kind people who want to change the world for the better. So when one such man named Narayana Reddy started his YouTube videos, people could share the health he spread. Over just two years, Reddy, best known as Grandpa Kitchen, has had over 6 million followers who enjoy watching him cook big meals to feed orphans(孤儿).

Reddy's success on YouTube was not surprising. We all know how much people love cooking videos and Grandpa's was exactly what people needed—simple, easy and as healthy as they can possibly get. The meals he prepared in each video weren't just a trick to catch the attention of his audience. In fact, the meals were big, so that every orphan in Reddy's community would get a bite to eat. The dishes all looked amazing and mouth-watering.

Fans probably know Grandpa's Kitchen intro by heart. Grandpa begins each video saying "Loving, caring, sharing: this is my family. " And it's clear that these words aren't just some catchphrase(流行语), but rather something Reddy truly lived by.

He strongly believed in helping the less lucky and supporting his community. That's why the money he received from his videos was given to charities, so people in need would be provided with basic necessities.

This is such a heart-warming piece of news in the cold winter. Some days ago, the temperature was only -6℃ in Kaifeng, Henan. Someone ordered 50 cups of warm porridge (粥) through Meituan App and noted “Please give the porridge to those cleaners who are clearing snow on the road nearby and those delivery (递送) men who are delivering food.” When the porridge shop owner received the order, he was moved by the note and provided 60 cups.

The story didn’t end here. As soon as the food delivery man got the big order, he shared it with his workmates so that they could also get paid. Finally, Meituan returned the money to the porridge buyer, Mr. Zhang and gave him a reward of ¥500. Although he had to raise his newborn baby and pay for his house every month, Mr. Zhang said he would surely continue delivering love.

The kind help also encouraged many other citizens in Kaifeng. This summer, volunteers are sending cool drinks every day.

Similar stories have happened in many other places in China. Outdoor workers in different cities are able to enjoy free and caring help. Lots of “love posts” are providing “coolness” in hot summer and “warmth” in cold winter. Just as a citizen of Kaifeng said, “I feel deeply moved and warm in my heart.”

In fact, we get love and give love every day. Love makes our life better and more beautiful.

On Jan 23, Wuhan was locked down. Hua Yuchen, a music teacher at Wuhan’s Ganghua Elementary School, saw a notice on the Internet looking for volunteers to fight the virus. She registered(登记) at once.

“At first, I had no idea what kind of work I was going to do,” Hua said. “But as a Wuhan girl, I knew I must do something for my hometown, even though I am just an ordinary person and cannot rescue(救助) patients as doctors do.”

Being a volunteer in Wuhan for more than 30 days, Hua was filling in where help was most needed. She sent medical workers to and from work. She took the temperatures of drivers at toll(收费) stations. She unloaded(卸货) goods and worked as a broadcaster(广播员) at a hospital.

“On our team, everyone is contributing silently(默默无闻地). There’s always someone who arrives earlier than me, does more work and leaves later,” Hua said. “The volunteers are passing courage(勇气) and responsibility around. I feel positive(乐观的) and energetic(充满活力的) when I’m working with them.”

As her parents’ only child, Hua didn’t tell them that she would do volunteer work at first for fear that they would worry about her. However, when she finally told them, they supported her.

Hua said she wants to share her volunteer experience with her students. She will talk to them about what they should do when the epidemic is over.
