Rubbish or trash is a major kind of environmental pollution. Each person produces about two kilograms of rubbish a day. We are making waste products faster than nature can break them down (分解) .
This adds up to trouble for the environment. Where does all trash go? What can be done to help deal with the rubbish? How can we make less rubbish?
Rubbish isn’t just the smelly rotting (腐烂的) fruits, vegetables or meat that we throw away in our homes. Those are only a small part of all the trash we throw away. We create other more kinds of waste, in construction, in mining (采矿) and in our factories. Did you ever wonder what happened to your rubbish? Most are burned or buried in landfills (废物填埋场). Less than a quarter of our waste is recycled (回收) .
With a population of 1.41 billion, rubbish is a big problem for China. Chinese cities create around 148 million tons of garbage every year. The number is growing at around 10 percent each year. Once, we used about 3 billion plastic shopping bags every day in China. The result was a great waste of resources and serious pollution. So we did something about that. Now we use more cloth bags and shopping baskets when we shop.
In the coming years, China will build waste-to-energy plants in cities to clean up the rubbish and change them to energy. But there’s a lot more that needs to be done. And everyone can play a part.

You must have heard of drug detection dogs(缉毒犬). But how about “drug detection squirrels(松鼠)”? Recently, Chongqing police have successfully trained six squirrels to find drugs. They began their work in early February.
Squirrels have a good sense of smell. They can smell food 30 centimeters under snow. Being so small, they can look for drugs in tiny or high places. The squirrels are trained to use their claws(爪子)to scratch at boxes to tell the police, if they find drugs, according to Chongqing police.
“Our self-developed training system can be used to train different kinds of animals,” Yin Jin, a police dog trainer in Chongqing, told The City Paper. It’s important to develop the animals’ conditioned reflex(条件反射).
First, the animals need to know the drug’s smell well. The trainers can put pieces of cloth with the drug’s smell next to the animals’ food. Next, the animals learn to look for the drug in different situations, such as from a large number of bags or among people walking in crowds.
If the animals successfully find the drug, they are given snacks and other treats. After training for some time, the conditioned reflex will be built and the animals will look for drugs naturally.

Everyone has parents. But not all of you can get on well with your parents. Well, how to solve this problem? Here is some useful advice.
Parents bring you to the world and care about you all the time. They really do their most and best for you, so you should try not to make them sad or angry and be polite to them.
You may choose whatever you can do. For example, doing the dishes, taking out the rubbish or cleaning the room. In fact, when you help them at home, you’ll learn how to look after yourself in the future.
Have a talk with them about their work when they come back. Try to make them happy when they are sad in life. Remind(提醒) them to wear warmer clothes in cold days.
In some ways, most parents wish their kids can be top at school and get a better future. You should try to learn hard and get on well with classmates and teachers so that they don’t have to worry about you.
