Last Friday, my friend Deborah asked me if I would like to learn how to make tofu. I couldn’t think of any good reason not to be interested in, so I said. “Yes”. So the next day I met her and other three nice people and went to Hodo Soy Beanery in Oakland. I enjoyed the trip. And I learned a lot from the trip. The following is what I learned.

Tofu has a history of 2,000 years. Although the word “tofu” is from Japanese, the food may come from China. There are two main kinds of tofu: soft tofu (软豆腐) and firm tofu (硬豆腐). In some parts of Asia, people use tofu as a kind of meat.

Douhua is one kind of soft tofu. It is a popular breakfast food in China. Because it is very soft, people can’t eat it with chopsticks, but with a spoon. People often eat it as a dessert and often add spring onions and sauce to it. In Malaysia people usually eat douhua with white or dark sugar water.

Some spicy (辛辣) food is so good that I really want my dog to try it. Have you ever had that thought? But can dogs eat spicy food? And do they like it?

Dogs actually have far fewer taste buds (味蕾) than humans, according to an animal expert. We have about 9,000 taste buds, while dogs only have around 1,700. 【小题1】 So if you try to feed your dog spicy food, it won’t even be able to taste the flavour that well. It’ll just feel the effects of the spice (香料).

【小题2】 They can feel the burning feeling of the spicy food, but they don’t taste the flavour as well as people do. In addition, spicy food can also taste bitter (苦的) to dogs, which they don’t like that much. While dogs’ sense of taste isn’t as strong as humans’, their sense of smell is much better. So your dog will also probably react to some strong smell of something spicy. 【小题3】

Not all spicy food is dangerous to dogs, but you still shouldn’t give your dog any. 【小题4】 Besides, spicy food is often salty, so dogs can get sick from eating too much salt.

If your dog accidentally eats some spicy food, you can give it a little milk. This is because spicy food can burn its mouth and lead to a stomachache. The same is true of people.

So don’t give your dog spicy food. It probably won’t really like it anyway.

I love breakfast. It’s my favorite meal of the day! I think it is important to eat a big breakfast because I can have enough energy (能量) for the day.

I live in England with other young people from all over Europe (欧洲). I feel that breakfast habits vary a lot. I know that different countries have different food.

As English, I eat bread for breakfast, but Italians just want to eat chocolate chip biscuits (饼干) and drink coffee. I think they are crazy(疯狂). Later, I eat some biscuits, and I think they are very delicious. And I also like the French habit of drinking hot chocolate with their breakfast. The Germans give me ham (火腿) and cheese (奶酪) to eat with my bread!

At last, we find that we like bread and chocolate, so we eat them every morning.
