On September 1st, 2022, as a member of the Sunshine Student Reporter Group (采访) . I asked some parents and kids about their ideas on the “Double Reduction” Policy (双减政策) . Here’s what they said.

Gao Li a nurse with two kids
I agree with the policy. My kids have more free time on weekends. My daughter, Xiao Wen, goes to learn ballet and my son, Xiao Tian, learns to play the piano. And we can have more family activities together. We often go hiking on weekends.

Xiao Le a student in Grade 7
Now I can do some reading or take up new hobbies in my free time. I really like the policy, because doing these things can make us feel happy and relaxed.

Li Bing a driver with a son
My son, Li Xiang is in a middle school. He often finishes his homework at school, so he can read different books he likes at home. And he often helps us do some housework.

Xiao Jie a student in Grade 8
We students have enough sleep every night. And on weekends we have more time to learn new skills and to do some volunteer (志愿者) activities. Also, we can’t see the rankings (排名). But at the same time, I don’t know whether (是否) I’m good or not.

When the bell rings at 9 o’clock, He Yue, 18, and a group of other students from Jiangsu Xishan Senior High School, crowd into the student community. They quickly put on their work uniforms and act as different kinds of workers. They could be a banker, a postman, a radio host or even a leader.

This is part of a project to create a simulated (模拟的) city run by students. Since last year, He Yue has been serving as an office worker for the students’ bank named K-bank. Unlike other students, she has a busy “job” during the 40-minute break: help prepare for change, fill in forms and record every deal. Sometimes, when a great deal of cash such as class funds and money from the supermarket is “stored”, she needs to count it and report the result in time.

Besides that, they also offer students interest-free funds and provide safe money-stored boxes. If students want to start a business like designing bookmarks but have no money to buy materials they can come here to loan. “With so much money, I’ve gradually learned to be more careful and thoughtful,” said He.

He is not the only one serving the school. Also, some students serve the food test center and other parts of the project including cultural and creative product community, radio stations, roasts. All of these are real life experiences. “Educators must realize that the top goal of education is not just about scoring good grades, but improving useful skills that will allow students to lead a good life,” said Tang Jiangpeng, headmaster of Jiangsu Xishan High.

【小题1】What will the school project help students do?
A.Experience life.B.Raise money.C.Finish homework.D.Find a job.
【小题2】What doesn’t He Yue need to do as a member of K-bank?

【小题3】What’s the underlined word “loan” probably mean?

【小题4】What does He Yue think of the school project?
A.Awful.B.Boring.C.Relaxing.D.Helpful.
【小题5】What’s the main purpose of the text?
A.To encourage students to run a bank.B.To call for help in the community.
C.To introduce a school community project.D.To help students score good grades.
Can you understand the following words?
“Long time no see.”
“Good good study, day day up.”
“I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.”
Yes, we call these examples Chinglish, like “people mountain, people sea”.
Chinglish usually means English vocabulary with Chinese grammar on street signs or products. However, many English speaking tourists love them. Tom has been living in Beijing for years. “I think many Chinese people dislike Chinglish. But I love it. It’s quite interesting. I think if the translations of English in China are all perfect, something will be lost from Chinese culture.”   However, Chinglish will probably become a part of history in future. Beijing has made a plan to correct Chinglish within five years. “It is so funny to see Chinglish on the signs. And they are a kind of trouble for communication between the Chinese and foreigners,” a Beijinger said.
However, some people in China like Chinglish. They think that English has “borrowed” a lot from other languages such as German, French and Spanish in the past, and now as Chinese’s turn.

A.The English words easy to pronounce.
B.The Chinese words difficult to translate.

D.The Chinese words that foreigners love.
【小题2】What does “people mountain, people sea” mean?

A.put English words into Chinese
B.change English and Chinese
C.help foreigners to learn Chinglish
D.correct Chinglish in future
【小题5】Some people, who love Chinglish, think that it is fine for English to borrow something from_____.
A.FrenchB.Chinese
C.SpanishD.German

In China, most students have busy weekends. They often go to after-school classes to learn math, English and so on. So, some of them can’t have a good sleep on weekends. But from July 26th, 2021, things aren’t like this because of some policies. For after-school classes, they may be good to help students with sports, music or art.

●Teachers can’t leave students too much homework. Students can have more time to go out to play sports.

●The after-school classes can’t teach students on weekends or holidays.

●Students can’t go home at 4:00 p.m. after school. Teachers at school must help students with their homework for about 2 hours every day.

●Parents must pay for school when students do their homework with teachers’ help after school.

Knowing these things, many students feel happy because they don’t have to do much homework. Parents are also happy because they don’t have to take students home when they are at work at 4:00 p.m..
