Dear Dr Jackson,

My parents are never happy with me. They are always criticizing (批评) my clothes, my hair and the music I listen to. I'm not allowed to stay out as late as my friends do, so I can’t have any fun. My parents only seem to care about my school marks. Although I love them, sometimes I feel we live in different worlds. If they love me, can’t they understand me? How can I make them understand me?

Angel

Dear Angel,

Your problem is common to both teenagers and parents. Don’t worry, because it is natural. Your parents have grown up at different times and they have different experiences. So they think some things are strange. For example, the music you like may sound terrible to them. Your parents love you, so they must protect you from anything bad or strange. However, you don’t want to be different from other teenagers, so you feel that your parents restrict you.

I think you should talk about this problem with your parents. Try to explain to them and let them know they can believe you. Sooner or later, they’ll find you are a responsible (有责任心的) person and they will give you more space.

Sadness and happiness are often talked about by people in their spare time. Most people want themselves to be happy forever, but few know how to find happiness. Others say if you own lots of money and success, you will be happy. However, money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. A famous Greek thinker, Aristotle, said, “Happiness depends on ourselves.” That’s to say, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future. For example, getting into college or getting a good job, which we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.

Another secret to living a happy life is to be active. Many people go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their problems and only think about the activities.

Finally, many people find happiness is helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping or help out with some things around the house for an elderly person.

If you do above, you will be happy.

Tea is an important part of Chinese tradition. Tea has very close relationship to Chinese culture.

It is said that Chinese tea was discovered by King Shen Nong. People say that he lived 5,000 years ago. One summer day, while he was visiting a faraway part of his country, he felt very thirsty. The servants began to make water hot enough to turn into gas for him to drink. Dried leaves from a near plant fell into the water. The king drank some, and found it could make him feel less tired. Also as a scientist, Shen Nong was interested in the new drink. And so, tea was created in 2737 BC.

Drinking tea has many advantages. It makes people feel less tired, clears heat inside the human body and helps people lose weight. As you add a cup of tea to your daily life, please check the following helpful advice.

•Drink it hot. Tea oxidizes(氧化) quickly, so it is suggested that you drink it hot.

•Do not drink too much strong tea. It will probably be harmful to your stomach and make you feel sick if you make the tea too strong.

On a bitter cold Sunday morning just outside New York City, a group of women—all moms, many strangers to one another—gathered for their very first group scream(尖叫). Jessica Kline, the publisher of Macaroni KID Clifton-Montclair, organized the mom screaming event in her community.

Two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, filled with stresses because of jobs, childcare, school disruptions(中断), and new viruses, have left many parents tired and bored. A CBS News survey finds nearly half of moms report they are experiencing a hard time, and many working moms had to leave their jobs.

Kline told reporter Meg Oliver that over the last two years, she’s often felt tired and stressed. When the pandemic started, she had three children under the age of six at home, “My house felt smaller,” she said. “I just felt like there was no place to go.”

As the women gathered and screamed, these bad feelings poured out. They got a great sense of relief. “I love my kids dearly, but it is nice to just be able to go and be in a community of moms,” one mom laughed and said.

Psychologist Lisa Damour said the screaming event can be a healthy way to relax for moms. “It offers relief. It’s important to talk about the bad sides of parenthood, to make moms feel less alone and ashamed,” she said.

The moms hoped this was just the beginning of the gatherings in their community. Kline said, “It’s difficult for moms to balance parenthood and self-care. I hope they all walk away with a sense of self-care and a happy memory, even if it’s just for a little bit.”
