Thanks very much for your e-mail. I am in Los Angeles now. Hollywood is really a wonderful place! I’m busy with the movie these days. It is tiring, but I will never forget my days here. I never regret being an actress(女演员). Anyway, it is my first movie in Hollywood. Soon my part of the movie will come to an end. Next Friday I’m going to Glasgow. I’ll have a three-week training program there and then I’m going to London and stay there for a month. After that I’ll go back home to stay with my mom and dad in Newcastle. Then on May 10th I’m going to Liverpool for a few days. I’ve got a part in a TV program there. It will be my first TV show.

I will go on holiday in June. Helen and I are going to Italy. We’re staying with Francesca in Turin for two weeks. Would you and Debbie like to come? Francesca says her house is very big. If you’d like to join us, could you call me or write to me? I hope you can come.

I got your e-mail this afternoon. You want to know about my family rules. Now let me tell you about them.

In my family I don’t have many rules. I can go out with my friends on school nights, but I have to get home before nine o’clock. I really like playing basketball. There is a small basketball playground in my garden. I often ask my friends to come to my garden and play basketball with me. It's sometimes really noisy. But my mother thinks if I really like basketball, it is OK. I have a computer in my bedroom. Sometimes I need to do my homework on the computer. I like playing computer games, and I often play them after finishing my homework. My mother often tells me that I can only play for an hour and then I have to read some books. I have to get up at six thirty from Monday to Friday, but on weekends I can sleep late.

I have to clean my room on weekends because a clean room can make me relaxed. On Sunday afternoons, I can have a party with my friends but I can’t drink. How about your family rules? I also want to know about yours.

Hundreds of years ago, life was harder than it is today. People didn’t have modern machines. There was no modern medicine, either.

Life today has brought new problems. One of the biggest is pollution. Water pollution has made our rivers and lakes dirty. It kills our fish and pollutes our drinking water. Noise pollution makes us talk louder and become angry more easily. Air pollution is the most serious kind of pollution to all living things in the world.

Cars, planes and factories all pollute our air every day. Sometimes the polluted air is so thick that it is like a quilt(被子) over a city. This kind of quilt is called smog.

Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. Factories must now clean their water before it is thrown away. And they mustn’t let dirty smoke go into the air.

We need to do many other things. We can put waste things in the dustbin and do not throw them on the ground. We can go to work by bus with our friends in the same car. If there are fewer people driving, there will be less pollution.
