What do you want to be when you grow up? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in a zoo? Zoos are fun to visit, so working at a zoo might be a fun job.

There are many different jobs for zoo workers. One job is to know what each animal eats and how to prepare its meals. All animals need food and water. Lions and bears do not eat the same kind of food. A diet expert (专家) knows what kind of food is best for each animal.

One of the most dangerous and important jobs in the zoo is working as trainers. Animal trainers need to understand how animals eat, sleep and move. Trainers teach zoo workers the safest way to feed the animals. When zoo animals get sick, trainers help the zoo doctor take care of the animals.

It is never too early to start planning for your future zoo job. You can begin by taking care of your own pet. Help your neighbors by pet sitting for them when they go on vacation. When you are older, you can volunteer in an animal shelter (收容所).

Teach yourself about animals by reading books and information on kids’ internet sites. Who knows? Someday you may work at a zoo and help other people enjoy the zoo as much as you can.

Aunt Ann is a police officer. After breakfast, Ann puts on her badge (徽章) and goes to work. Ann and her partner, Jim, are on duty today. At the police station, the sergeant (巡佐) talks to them. “Last night, a bear ran away from the zoo!” he says. “Be careful!”

They pick up the keys to their patrol car (巡逻车) and drive around the west side. At the corner of Main and State, there is a traffic jam because the traffic light is broken. Ann stops her car and tells the drivers when to stop and when to go. Jim calls the station about the broken traffic light on Main and State. Soon, the station calls Traffic Repair.

In the afternoon, they walk down Elm Street. Everything looks quiet. Suddenly, Ann sees a little boy crying. The boy’s name is Adam. He gets off the bus at the wrong bus stop. Ann shows him her badge so he knows she is a police officer. “Where do you live?” Ann asks. Adam does not remember, but he brings his ID card with him. He opens his backpack and shows Ann the address on the card. Jim calls the station and the station calls Adam’s house. Ann and Jim drive Adam home.

A moment later, a call comes in from the station. “Check out the strange noise at 203 Cedar Drive!” Ann and Jim are on the way. At 203 Cedar Drive, the rubbish bin is turned over. Ann looks in the bin. It is the bear that ran away from the zoo. Ann closes the bin quickly and asks Jim to call the zoo. Two zoo keepers arrive to pick up the bear. Ann and Jim go back to the station. After work, they hand in their keys and write their police report.

Making a good job choice is almost as good as choosing a good life. So, choosing a job is one of the most important decisions to make in life.

For my job, there are three important things that I will consider:

The first one is that I must work in an area I like—is most important to me. Someone once said if you find a job that you enjoy, then you won’t have to work another day. I would like to work in an area where I can be more creative. I would like to be the most valuable member there. All this is possible only if I like what I do.

The second one is that the area of my work must lead me to solve some new and hard problems. I would like to stay in the same area for a long time. In order for this to happen, the work must provide enough problems. More than just working to live, I enjoy making a difference and trying my best for the whole progress. I would also like to be well remunerated for my hard work, so I can lead a comfortable life with this hard-won money. Then I can provide the best for my family.

The third important thing is that I would like to work in an area that would help other people. The work in my mind is in fields such as the army, training or management. In such areas, I can help to develop the abilities of others and bring out their best. It would be a most satisfying(令人满意的)job to help young people to become the best that they can be. When I become old, I would like to look back with a great sense of satisfaction that thousands of people have become better persons through my work.

I accept the idea that no one should make a choice of a job suddenly or quickly. He should decide what he wants to be in the long run. Then, he should decide how he works towards it. He should study the proper courses, read the books and speak to knowledgeable(博学的)persons in that field before making a job choice. A good choice will most probably lead to a better life.

【小题1】The writer considers an enjoyable job most important because ________.
A.he has to bring out his bestB.it can make him more creative
C.he will have to work another dayD.it is possible for him to live better
【小题2】The underlined word “remunerated” in the passage means “________”.
A.trainedB.praisedC.acceptedD.paid
【小题3】The writer wants to tell us that everyone should ________.
A.become a knowledgeable personB.join the army to become a better person
C.make preparations to find a satisfying jobD.help young people to choose an interesting job
