Thank you for coming today to attend the graduation ceremony at No.3 Junior High School. First of all, I’d like to congratulate all the students who are here today. I remember meeting all of you when you were just starting Grade 7 at this school. You were all so full of energy and thirsty for knowledge. And yes, some of you were a little difficult to deal with! But today I see a room full of talented young adults who are full of hope for the future. You’ve all grown up so much and I’m so proud of you.

Although you’ve all worked very hard over the last three years, none of you did it alone. I hope you’ll remember the important people in your lives who helped and supported you—your parents, your teachers, your friends. Please consider what they’ve done for you and what they mean to you. Never fail to be thankful to the people around you.

Lastly, the end of junior high school is the beginning of a new life. I don’t need to tell you that life in senior high school will be harder and that you have many difficult tasks ahead of you. You’ll make mistakes along the way, but the key is to learn from your mistakes and never give up. But along with difficulties, there will also be many exciting things waiting for you. Behind each door you open are chances to learn new things, and you have the ability to make your own choices. Choose wisely and be responsible for your decisions and actions. Although you have to go your separate ways now, I hope that in a few years’ time, you’ll come back to visit our school. As you set out on your new journey, you shouldn’t forget where you came from. Nature is our home, so we should not pollute it and hurt the wild animals. If you don’t cherish or protect it, we’ll have to pay for our indifference (冷漠). We have polluted the environment badly, such as the air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, waste pollution.

What’s more, we kill many wild animals. So the number of them becomes fewer and fewer. For example, in 2010, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)brought bad news that the world’s tiger population had hit an all-time low (最低纪录). There were just 3,200 tigers left in the wild, about half as many as there had been ten years before.

Now there’s good news: Tigers could be making a comeback. There were about 4,000 tigers in the world in 2019. In July, India, which has 70% of the world’s tigers, said that its tiger population had reached nearly 3,000. That’s a 30% rise in just four years.

India’s success was years in the making. In 2006, habitat (栖息地)loss made the number of India’s tigers reduce to only 1,411. So the Indian government decided to take a stronger plan of protection. Since its Wildlife Protection Act became law, India has given tigers a high level of protection. With the help of the protection, India created 50 reserves (保护区), where tigers can spread out and hunt (捕猎).

But challenges remain for tigers all over Asia. They are hunted for their skin, and their teeth are sold as medicine. They’re still in danger. So we should try our best to stop the animals dying out.

The river in our city was very beautiful many years ago. (A) It provided us with clean water. However, it is very dirty now. Factories (B) next to the river put waste into it. That pollutes the (C) ________ and kills the fish. People also throw away (D) a lot of rubbish into it.

The river is important to our city! We must do our best to protect it. We must take care of these problems. For example, we must stop throwing rubbish (E) ________ the river. (F) 我们也可以沿着河种些树。 I believe the river will be clean again.
